Sleep Cycle
Waves of melatonin surge in blood
Drowning my body in enormous flood
Mind floats on top like Noah's arc
Eyes closed reveal a hypnotic, sedative dark.
The perfect storm for dreams to protrude
Spontaneous ideas that don't conclude
They just happen, for better or for worse
Don't know if it’s a blessing or a curse.
Sink into obsidian ocean below,
Submerged and suspended as I let go
of old memories that pour out of me,
Leaking into a boundless and bottomless sea.
They don't seem to completely disappear,
Rather rearrange into something unfamiliar, unusual, and unclear.
I awake awashed ashore
As the waters lower more and more,
Drained of it all, an empty yet soaked Earth
Seemingly desolate yet holds new worth
With time the barren lands grow fully nourished
New life will spring forth and will flourish
Until it's time again to be destroyed and broken
Into pieces that form new wants and desires awoken.
