2 LoRs, 1 professor 1 employer

Application Process

I will be shooting for the top 14 and I’m applying soon. Is it worth taking the time to ask another professor so that I have 2 academic letters/ 3 total? I didn’t realize there were schools that wanted at least 2 of these to be academic. I’m more than 2 years out of undergrad

It’s worth it. Academic letters are preferred if you can get them. If not, it’s not the end of the world.

Out of curiosity, which schools require 2 academic letters? I know many schools have a strong preference for 2 if you’ve been out of school for less than 5 years, but didn’t know it was a requirement for some.

yeah you are right it’s not a “requirement” anywhere. My recent discovery is that schools like Stanford and Yale “strongly prefer” them. Not planning on getting into either of those schools lmao but it made me wonder if I should just take the precaution of 2 academic letters anyway (since posting this I have emailed another professor)

Just curious, but what kind of experiences did you have with these two professors to be able to reach out after two years and receive (I assume) stellar letters of rec?

They both wrote me letters of rec when I was still a student and i have taken 2-3 classes w both of them

I’m nervous to message my old profs asking for Letters of Recommendation. Even then, I’m not sure what actually happens after you ask. I’m guessing they have to put it on LSAC somehow themselves since it says on LSAC website you are not supposed to see your recommendation letters.

You put their info in on LSAC, waive your right to see the recommendation, and it sends them a link to submit

Thank you so much! Really appreciate it. :)

My attitude with asking them is that I have nothing to lose from it. We hadn’t talked in years so worst case scenario they don’t respond and we continue not talking lol
