WSIB: Co-op or competitive games

boys I need a game to play with 2 other scubs.

Lately we played The Guild 2 and Renaissance and thought they were pretty awesome but still awful games. We really enjoy playing awful games together in co op and making them fun. Could you guys recommend some games with some good co op or competitive multiplayer for a 3 player group? We enjoy basically any type of game. We make most games fun but need something we can play a few times as we've ran out of awful games to paly.

Here are some games that I've enjoyed with my friends:

  1. Borderlands - FPS RPG. Really enjoy this game. I mainly played the campaign with my friend. There are four classes. I played Mordecai, the class that focuses on using sniper rifles and pistols. My friend played Lilith and used a lot of assault rifles/machine guns. What really appealed to me was the looting system. Every time you kill an enemy, open a chest, etc. weapons are dropped. My friend and I spent a lot of time farming for better and better weapons. Once you complete the campaign, I've heard there's a New Game+ aspect. The DLCs are also really fun. Definitely worth checking out. O and up to 4 players can play together through the campaign. If I'm not mistaken, as more people join, the enemies become harder and harder to kill.

  2. Heroes of Newerth/Dota 2 - MOBA. Typical MOBA game. HoN recently made all their heroes free. The community is horrible though, but if you can handle some verbal abuse, MOBAs are really fun.

  3. Terraria - Sandbox/Action RPG. Here's the WTF is... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFYmJmhpMAE). It's like a 2D Minecraft. You mine, collect materials, craft items (weapons, armor, building material), and build up your character to try to beat bosses/zombies. Unfortunately, the devs are not planning on updating the game, but it is definitely worth playing.

  4. Dungeon Defenders - Tower Defense. This game's a "third-person" tower defense game. There is a lot of grinding in this game. You want to level so you can use better and better equipment. There is random stat generated equipment dropped as you are going through a level, but most of the good equipment I get are from farming money and buying them from other people. Lots of classes with different defenses. I've mainly seen people build their character so they have a lot of hero attack damage and hero hp or they focus on leveling tower attack and tower fire rate. If you have really good equipment and your stats are good, you can pretty much set up defenses at the beginning of a level, leave your computer, and let your defenses kill everything. Tons of DLCs too.

Some Co-op games I plan on playing with friends in the future:

  1. Magicka - Action/Adventure. Third person spell spamming game. Kind of reminds me of Diablo, but with less emphasis on loot. The game has a plethora of spell combos. You start out with around 6-8 basic spells and can combine them to make more powerful spells. For example: Combining an Earth spell and a Fire spell will shoot out a fire boulder. Also, Lightning + Fire will stun and set enemies on fire. Lots of DLC too. Here's the WTF is... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_XP9OBWGKo).

  2. Awesomenauts - 2D MOBA. My friends and I really like MOBAs. This is just a less competitive, 2D side-scrolling, DOTA-like game.

  3. Orcs Must Die 2 - Tower Defense like Dungeon Defenders. Not sure if there's loot or not.

Common Co-op/Multiplayer games I've heard other people suggest:

  1. Left 4 Dead 2 - FPS/Zombies
  2. Portal 2 - Puzzle
  3. Trine 2 - Puzzle/Side-scrolling.

Killing Floor. Wave-based "zombie" killing that absolutely requires teamwork, with the server adapting enemy strength and numbers to how many people playing. Three's pretty much a perfect number. It's consistently one of the most-played games on Steam and almost always has a list of at least two hundred servers with people playing on them; has free updates throughout the year that usually include a new map, achievements, and maybe new weapons; and the community has developed so many white-listed (you can play on them and level up) maps that it's ridiculous. I picked it up on a Steam sale a couple years ago, and now I have over 450 hours sunk into it. It's absolutely worth $20.

The new Mann V Machine update for TF2 is really good and thats a free to play game so its definitely worth a look at. Minecraft, the Left 4 Dead series, and Dungeon Defenders are all good games. I also agree with the suggestion Borderlands, that would probably be the best bet for you guys.

Sounds like you would love E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy. It's a game that is good alone, but great in a group. This is an FPS/RPG that makes no sense at all. It's the perfect fit for you three.

Ace of Spades - It's a free game with low system requirements. Basically, it's Minecraft with guns. You build/destroy fortifications while the opposing team shoots at you. I'm sure you and your friends can figure out how to have fun with it.

Renegade ops - a fairly short (2-3 hours) 9 level shoot-everything. You travel around in one of several vehicles with different special abilities and do certain missions, mostly blowing stuff up. Upto 4 players. You get ranked per level so you can replay, and try the harder difficulties. The coldstrike campaign DLC adds 3 missions which I wouldn't really bother paying 3 times for, unless you all really enjoy the base game.
