Stardust to Us

Poem

Together we grew, entwined among trees,

two twigs, too separate, but meant to be?

I knew of my roots, the sway in my leaves,

the smell of my soil, my everyday needs.

Life beyond bark I'd yet to see,

until your beautiful blossom brought me to knees.

Branching into your life, I saw the birds and the bees,

the rivers that roared, the dew resting on reeds.

Closer to living, yet no farther from myself, piecing together my place,

I found the knowledge of peace:

Though alone in my being, it was yours that gave mine meaning.

Of any people, of any place,

Of any soul, of any face,

Of all the planets, of all the petals,

Of all the world, you are unique.

So let’s march through the orchards!

From apples to oranges,

from seeds to saplings,

from stardust to us.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I LOVE those first two lines. Like the person you have needed for so long has been right in front of you the entire time. A beautiful smack in the face. You told such a simple story with such beautiful imagery. I have nothing bad to say!

Thank you!

I really like the last four lines of the poem. This was a super sweet read. "From apples to oranges / from seeds to saplings / from stardust to us" is genuinely one of the most romantic things I've heard in a long while.

SpunkyDred is a terrible bot instigating arguments all over Reddit whenever someone uses the phrase apples-to-oranges. I'm letting you know so that you can feel free to ignore the quip rather than feel provoked by a bot that isn't smart enough to argue back.

^^SpunkyDred ^^and ^^I ^^are ^^both ^^bots. ^^I ^^am ^^trying ^^to ^^get ^^them ^^banned ^^by ^^pointing ^^out ^^their ^^antagonizing ^^behavior ^^and ^^poor ^^bottiquette.

This poem made me feel enveloped by nature and like I was witnessing the love growing together. I love the line "Though alone in my being, it was yours that gave mine meaning." Such a great sentiment that we are all alone in our being but the meaning comes from each other. Love that. Thanks for sharing.

This is great! Your change of rhythm towards the end isn't jolty, but natural, and a nice 'sing-songy' conclusion to your happy metaphor :D I really like it!
