DRS your IRA shares at IRA Financial Trust in a self-directed IRA with a LLC!
I’m sure drsgme.org has great info. I didn’t feel the need to check it out after doing the small bit of research that I did to learn what I wrote below.
I highly recommend folks check out IRA Financial Trust. They have a self-directed LLC package, meaning you will have 100% control over your shares -not them, even though they are the legal custodian of your IRA. They offer a package similar to Mainstar Trust’s package, ‘for benefit of’, but those do not offer you, the shareholder, the same control over your shares. I didn’t want to pass the control of my shares to them. I don’t trust them. The self-directed LLC costs more, but it’s complete peace of mind and security for me. To be clear, they take care of all paperwork for the IRA and for the LLC. All paperwork.
This LLC package creates a LLC for you. Deez Nutz on KG Holding Co can really be where your tax sheltered DRS’d shares sit. You pick three names, and they pick the first one that’s available in the state that you form your LLC in.
The package costs $999 the first year and $360 every year after. Right now, they’re offering 60% off the initial year’s cost, $600 off. They’re not advertising it, and it’s only for GME investors. To get the discount, schedule a call with a rep on their website, and ask about the discount. They’ll give you a coupon code to use when filling out the online application. I submitted mine a few days ago, and it was pretty simple, just need a few documents.
DETAILS:
I clicked schedule a call at the top of the page to schedule a Calendly appointment. For information, I told them I have a roth IRA with shares of one security, and I wish to directly register those shares with the company's transfer agent.
The needed documents are the front and back of your ID, a recent statement from your IRA showing pertinent info (date, your name, IRA name, securities and quantities, etc.). I don’t recall anything other than that, sorry if I forgot something.
If you're transferring from a Fidelity IRA to a self-directed IRA with LLC at IRA Financial Group, you'll want to do a rollover (this is one of the boxes you have to check).
Setting up an LLC the government requires a 'Registered Agent' and their address be listed. You could have it be your own address in the state that you select, but I selected 'Unknown' at the bottom. I emailed my 'guy' there (the one from the Calendly appointment) regarding the registered agent. He explained that they are willing to be your registered agent, free of charge, if you're willing to establish your LLC in one of their two states, either Florida or South Dakota. Seems pretty simple and straightforward to choose them, especially since they take care of any other paperwork that's needed.
To reiterate: To be clear, they take care of all paperwork for the IRA and for the LLC. All paperwork.
Their owner, Adam, is an ape. Someone posted a great video of him speaking that someone posted a week or two ago. I’ll link it.
These guys are getting lots of calls from GameStop shareholders, and although the guy I spoke with on the phone was a little young and a little nervous, the company itself has this down to a battle rhythm, seems like.
10/10 highly recommend
Tl,dr: DRS your tax sheltered GME shares that are in IRAs at IRA Financial Trust
Edit: forgot to include the steps that they ‘guy’ from the Calendly call emailed me:
Below are the steps involved for direct registering your GME stock in a Self-Directed IRA:
Open a Self-Directed IRA account with IRA Financial. Request an in-kind indirect rollover of the GME stock from their current custodian (brokerage firm). The brokerage firm will DRS (Direct Registration System) the shares into Computershare in the name of the individual IRA owner. The shares will go from the brokerage firm into the name of the IRA owner and then into the name of the IRA (IRA Financial Trust Company FBO John Doe IRA). IRA Financial, we will need a copy of this statement as well as a completed Deposit form, which you can complete on our app. The process will need to be completed within 60 days. Note – one can only do one indirect rollover every twelve months. IRA Financial will establish a limited liability company (LLC) that will ultimately be owned by your IRA. The LLC can use any available name. The ultimate title to the GME stock will be in the name of the LLC, which will be 100% owned by the IRA and managed by the IRA owner (you). This is known as a Self-Directed IRA LLC. The IRA owner will serve as the manager of the LLC giving the IRA owner complete control over the LLC. IRA Financial will simply be the custodian of the IRA and will have no authority over the GME stock as the LLC operating agreement provides that the LLC is controlled by the LLC manager (the IRA owner). Since a single member LLC is treated as a disregarded entity for tax purposes, no federal income tax return is required. The ownership of the GME stock will then be changed from the IRA owner’s name to the name of the LLC. This must be done within 60 days of having the GME shares titled in the name of the individual IRA owner. The GME stock will be re-titled from the name of the IRA owner to the name of the IRA and then to the name of the LLC. The GME shares will be directly registered in the name of the LLC. You, as manager of the LLC, will have complete control over the LLC.
