Pinoy thanksgiving

Which I think is a very good thing kasi like halloween hindi ito political, patriotic or religious holiday.

However, it is sad na it is a copycat of the american thanksgiving, hindi ba maganda if we can 'rebrand' it somehow and it can be a day of gratitude Filipino style?

We already have a similar one - Pahiyas. To celebrate bountiful harvest, which is what thanksgiving in states was initially about.

Making it a Filipino celebration is just adding another holiday to our already long list of holidays.

ay oo nga, every fiesta is about thanksgiving to a bountiful harvest, most common is during May and the patron saint is San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the farmers.

Pero, it seems that the fiesta has been lost in urban areas and only a few people are in farming or agriculture in general. Also, the fiesta is (or still somewhat) a church holiday. Now, mukhang our version of thanksgiving appeals more to the current population (or maybe this is just my bubble lang)

Parang more for millennials ata or people who just want to find a reason to go out and celebrate something!

Marami na kasi OFW families, so sabay na rin ang celeb nila doon. Basta ang alam ko, thanksgiving is black friday so palagi na akong may bilin sa mom ko.

Thanksgiving actually used to be a Holiday here but iirc it was removed as a holiday in 1986.

Wow, thank you I didnt know and I was alive back 86. Was it only on paper or did people actually celrbrated it? Im guessing nobody was celebrating by 86 that is why it was formally removed.

Well during the time of American colonization we celebrated thanksgiving on the same day as the Americans. I wasn't alive in the 70s or 80s, so I don't know if people actually celebrated it but there's some old photos out there of people celebrating it.

In 1972, when Marcos declared Martial law, he moved the date for Thanksgiving to September 21 which was the same day he declared Martial law. Thus when he was ousted from power in 1986 it ceased to be a holiday due to it being associated with Martial law.
