PSA for anyone that needs it, you can disable Halloween effects with "no_easter_eggs = true" in autoexec.cfg

I know of a few people trying to record videos that need this disabled for the moment so fortunately BIGNEWY posted the solution on the ED Discord

Steps:

If it doesn't exist already create a text file called autoexec.cfg at this path:

"C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\autoexec.cfg"

This may be "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS\Config\autoexec.cfg" if you converted a stable install to Open Beta

Enter the line

no_easter_eggs = true

Save and you're done

Which is a far cry from the Halloween events that Escape from Tarkov installed. You get random debuffs when you spawn in, some of them literally being a poison that you get hit with that can kill you in a few minutes. Sometimes just aggressive hunger or thirst that will kill you if you don't eat/drink something. I've randomly been hit 3 out of 5 times, which is slightly annoying with a 50K treatment in game to get rid of the poison.

It's obviously not the end of the world, but for players like my friend who can't buy the fix (You can only get the antidote to the poison if you've found it before in game and happened to save it, or if you are level 15 or higher and can buy it from the market) but it's very annoying to just have something shoehorned into the game that hurts new players the most and just...doesn't really add anything fun or cool.

There are some cool features added outside of the poison and random shit that look pretty cool. Sometimes the Scavenger enemies in game will spawn in with a Jack O Lantern on their heat that emits this creepy orange glow from the eyes and mouth, so you'll be walking around at night and suddenly see this orange glow ahead as this guy starts wandering up to you with a gun out and creepily glowing eyes.

Correct! It's a standalone server that let's you play alone (and only alone), thereby allowing you to mod your experience and avoid hackers, supergood players and seasonal events.

Huh, interesting. That's pretty cool.

I've been enjoying hopping online with friends, but man, this new event is just obnoxious. I would enjoy it if it weren't for the stupid random poisonings. It's obnoxious having to take a bunch of extra stuff just in case I get hit with a random debuff.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as holiday happy and joyous as anyone but when your newest update has the half of your users complaining about a drop in performance across the board, seeing Halloween decorations as Easter eggs in that release might not be the best thing.

Correct, not to mention that this isn't an Easter egg at all. An Easter egg is supposed to be something that's hidden in the game that requires specific steps to access, to the point that makes it obvious it's an Easter egg. When it's just front and center like this, it's just an event.

It's really rather sad that ED has their heads so far down in the sand that they couldn't see that this would be a problem for some people, because when you force an Easter egg on people where there's no obvious way to opt out of, especially on top of a major patch that introduced a lot of issues, it's hard for people to tell if it's a bug or intentional. Yet our "community manager's" response is "it's just one day, deal with it ⌐■_■" rather than provide a solution. Never stop disappointing us, Nineline.

Edit: People really are missing the point here. I'm not saying no Easter eggs, I'm saying to add a fucking toggle in the settings to disable them because for some people it's more annoying than fun. But hey, fuck me for asking for a checkbox to expose an easy way to disable a setting that's already in the game, amirite? Apparently ED thought that it would be a good idea to add the ability to disable Easter eggs, but when I bring it up I get crucified for it. This community sometimes 🤷‍♂️

Yes just like the M2000 played the French anthem on its test mod on 1th april Squelleton and Pumpkins on the 31th of october, 48 whole hours after an update is not obvious

They should have made a sale event for Halloween a trailer on YouTube and other social media platform to warn people. Surprise in my military sim if NOT acceptable.

Nineline should write us an apology for answering so lightly on a fun centered event (better yet resign) /s

It's actually kinda crazy that they didn't think default-on halloween easter eggs in a military sim with no well documented ability to disable wouldn't be an issue at all. Got home last week, spent 6 days waiting to get time to get into the sim, carve out a 3 hour window to play and get greeted with this bullshit. o_O

Exactly. It's not like ED themselves didn't think about it; they added a way to disable it, but didn't make it known or discoverable until people started asking about it. And as another example of how bipolar this community is, you said the exact same thing I did, yet I got downvoted and you got upvoted 🤷‍♂️.
