Immortal Normals

Poem

Do you want to be immortal

when everyone is just normal?

Can you ever find your own way

if everyone will die someday?

No fear of your own mortality

but can you live with your morality

when you can’t escape your reality?

What if I just want to be immortal

when everyone else wants to be normal

if only to shine bright through a dark hole?

They say the famous always shine bright

So I want to stick around for a minute

But everyone’s got no time to fight

So we might as well strap up and run with it.

I've thought of perhaps making a collection of poems I write during my time at college, mostly focusing on heavier topics and questions entitled things i scream into the void.

Whether or not this becomes part 2 behind my first post here is to be decided. I suppose it depends on if I ever feel motivated enough to edit and revise. These poems might not take me long to write, but they sure as hell are taxing, mentally and emotionally.

On the bright side, I have access to a wonderful organization known as Tiger Bark Press (check it out they publish cool things COUGH shameless promotion COUGH) that helps writers in my home area get their stuff published.

Yessss I support this decision! Writing through a phase of life then looking back at it after years will be just great! Good luck on writing and publishing!

this is a wonderful poem! thanks for sharing. you are immortal, that is normal... it is just abnormal or uncommon to see that, which I guess makes it seem less common from the observers viewpoint.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I don’t know how to feel about it, I can feel one line but I can’t feel the other, I like how it made me understand it but also feel confused! I really liked this line (but can you live with your morality, when you can’t escape your reality?)

Of course I want to be immortal! (Imagine all the shiny Pokémon I could catch!)

I like this because it's something that I don't think that much about. When I was younger, I thought the lifespan of a human was too long, but the older i get, the more I hope to live to see a ripe old age! Good post!
