Have you ever tried any good savory dishes with floral flavor components?

Open Discussion

I just had this thought the other day and can’t seem to google my way into good answers —I can’t recall any time that I’ve had a good savory dish involving any type of “floral” flavor (ex: rose, lavender, orange blossom, elderflower, etc.).

I imagined a couple of possibilities as to why they’re not used, and am not sure if any of them are accurate (would love to hear thoughts on if these are wrong!):

  • floral flavors just don’t pair well with most savory foods
  • some other cultures (I live in USA) do use floral flavors more often, I just don’t know about it
  • floral flavors just tend to be weaker than herbs/spices that we use and not worth it for savory dishes

Anyway, my brain won’t let me stop thinking about if it’s possible to make a great roasted chicken with some type of lavender-based sauce.

Have you ever come across a great savory dish involving strong floral notes? If they just aren’t really a thing, why not? Is this a dumb question?
