OSRIC Sage Rules Opinions

I have been slowly making my way through OSRIC and made it to the Sage rules starting on page 138. I love the tables that help define the sage's fields of study, but table with the % chance of knowing the answer to the question, not so much. BX/OSE also says that the chance should never be 100%.

I feel like if the PCs go through the effort of finding an appropriate sage and pay their hard earned GP, they should get the answers they seek. Maybe it will take the sage some time depending on the obscurity of the question, but the answer is coming. I WANT the players to find out about all the stuff I put into the campaign.

What do you think about the sage rules? Have you used them RAW in game? How did it go for you?
