Do poffins “run out” at midnight?

This might be a silly question, but I was wondering what would happen to the poffin excited status if it was used at 8pm. I was wondering if a person could use the poffin at 8, max out the hearts. Then at midnight the hearts reset, could you earn more walking, battle, screenshot, etc etc hearts? Or does the effect wear off?
