Why are people online so mean for no reason

I hate that whenever I post anything, I get downvoted for it, criticized, and just receiving general hatred. I feel like putting energy on this website is useless as I have to wait for others’ approval. It feels horrible, I can’t even ask for advice without criticism and non judgmental comments.
