Why are judges treated like royalty?

Why I gotta call a grown man/woman “your honor” that’s goofy.

Because it is a very hard to earn position and it is a professional setting. Grow up.

Damn, should’ve told me to grow up before today’s court date. Just got life without parole. 😔🤘🏻

What'd you do?

I called the judge “Dude”

Yea that doesn't get you life without parole. Very funny.

2

You have to address the judge as “my dude”, that’s more formal

Because it is a very high position. Most judges are voted into their positions too. They went to school for years! And you don't necessary have to say your honor... you can say judge. Basically just be respectful.

It is an earned title, like Doctor or Professor. It makes it clear that they are the arbiter of the court, rather than another member of the congregated people. You can also address them indirectly as "the court".

You don't have to, but I dare you not to. 😂

Because they are representing the authority of the government. Not respecting that will get you in trouble. The judge is empowered to make sure you respect that authority

Because they represent The People and The State. By showing respect to them, you’re showing respect for the laws, structure of government, etc and respect for your community.

I think it's a generational thing.
