Decided to change up Ellie’s tattoo and have quite a bit of regret — would you guys remove if you were me? Game was a big part of my life during a dark time and now I’m just very torn

Honestly I think it looks great! The leaves/stems look just like Ellie’s! And the moth is different, but it looks cool in its own right. I’ve seen a lot of Ellie tattoo posts on this subreddit and most of them seem to change something to make it a little personalized. But my first thought looking at yours is last of us for sure!
I don’t know if that helps or not, but that is a really badass tattoo in my opinion!
I'm not sure what the flaws are, tbh. It looks great, and it's unique but also verrrrrry much Ellie's tattoo.

No I love this! I love the placement of the moth. It’s very unique but still recognizable as Ellie’s. I had this same feeling when I got my tattoo and it’s completely unrelated to The Last of Us. I just had a temporary panic about it being a permanent mark on my body that I didn’t even like. But that feeling changed and I’m sure yours will too. I truly do like this tattoo, don’t feel so bad about it!
My dude. This is such a badass tattoo! I’ve been annoyed seeing the copy and paste tattoos recently. I’m glad everyone loves their tats. But WOW your tat is so unique and inspired. Freaking love it man. Doesn’t matter what we think though, hope you love it too someday.
Unfortunately laser tattoo removal isn't the easy fix a lot of people think it is. Even the smallest tattoos can take 7+ sessions (with 3 months recovery between sessions) and there's no guarantee it will every fully go away. It can, but it's very dependent on how your individual body metabolises the ink.
Personally I think it's a great tattoo. It looks like it's been done well and people who are fans of the game will probably recognise it. People who haven't played the game probably won't know where it's from anyway.
Yes learned this the hard way. I had (not even a deep tattoo… it was done in a basement and it was very light) and it took like 4-5 sessions and a fuck ton of money to get it COMPLETELY, gone. After maybe 2 people said they didn’t notice it tho. That’s a not deep small very light tattoo.
i think you might just need to make the black leaves reach the moth bc at the moment the moth looks very disconnected from the rest of the tattoo.
i hear you though, as someone who keeps getting tattoos and regretting them all. probably because of my autism lol. i get the same anxiety from getting the tattoo adjusted so its not an exact copy. i am currently removing one that i just cant get over how much i hate it. laser removal is expensive though, but i used groupon and advise you do the same if you are going to remove it. what would have cost me ~£800 has cost me £45 (4 laser sessions)
Yeah, I agree. The moth is kind of a weird placement, but the reality is the whole rest of the tattoo looks amazing. People aren’t gonna look at your elbow armpit that often :-)
Is this your first tattoo? I ask because it is common for a tattoo to have some imperfections in it. Artists are not machines after all. I have a Darth Vader tattoo on my shoulder that looks great save for a fucked up lightsaber. You'll learn to not let those things bother you.
I actually think this looks quite good, and I would immediately recognize it as a TLOU2 tat if I saw it in public.
If you want to remove it, that is your call. Do what will make you happy.
It is my first for sure. I appreciate your words very much. My friend told me instead of removing it I should just get more tattoos to take focus away, but I guess it’s hard to take my mind off of it.
Getting a forearm tattoo as your first is a big commitment. Honestly that artist probably should have explained to you how big a commitment that was before doing it.
I love my messed up Vader tattoo, and it still looks fantastic despite its small flaw.
I wouldn't do more 'just to take your focus away.' That's going to cost money and it might make matters worse if you don't like those ones, right?
How recent is this tattoo? Because I instantly regretted my Vader, but then after a few days I chilled out and found it beautiful.
It’s been about a year since I got it. Problem is, I’m a high anxiety/hyper focused individual, so I probably dwell more than most.
Then don't get more tattoos.
And just remember: No one cares about your tattoo anywhere near as much as you do.
This is what I mean: Right now, you are worrying yourself sick about this tattoo and you are - probably - constantly thinking about it even though you don't want too. Thinking about how it doesn't look right, or how this leaf looks off or the moth doesn't look right, whatever.
If I knew you in person, like if I constantly saw you at work, or hell, even if you were a good friend of mine with that tattoo, you know what I would think?
I'd go: "Hey cool! Delicious got a pretty nice last of us tattoo!" DONE.
I would not even notice, or care about any of the small, minor things that you see as imperfections.
I know anxiety doesn't work this way, but I promise you no one is going to judge you for that tattoo in the way your brain is judging yourself.
I am also high anxiety and relate to that a lot. I get that way about freckles and moles, fixating that I need to get rid of them. At least for me, I’ve learned it has less to do with my actual skin and more with my self-hate creeping in and finding reasons to not like myself. So I hope you grow to love your tattoo and the dark times you survived to be still sitting here with it. Much peace to you my friend 🙏🏻
Removing is expensive, painful and can leave ugly scars. If it‘s a small part you don‘t exactly like, go back to your artist and ask what can be done. Because the tat looks amazing!
I think it’s perfect. Having it exact would be kind of boring. Switching it up a tiny bit is the way to go! That’s what I would have done too
I think it looks awesome actually
I think it’s dope!
It looks good though
"Remove" it? Lasering that off will be a painful and very expensive process considering how many sessions you'll have to sit through.
I actually really dig it. The subtle changes aren’t glaring enough for me, and I think the inclusion of the moth is a nice touch. What’s really nice about it is the placement. You can build from it pretty easily if you ever wanted to finish your sleeve.
Looks cool tho. How did it cost fully ?
No need to change, looks sick
This is a dope tattoo! I have Ellie’s tattoo as well welcome to the club ❤️
As someone whose struggled with OCD/intrusive thoughts historically I understand your pain here. Continue your therapy, keep up to date with your meds, dial in some nutrition and exercise and surround yourself as much as you can with a community of supportive and loving individuals! Try and love yourself and give yourself some grace - you’re worth it! Culturally/societally speaking having a large tattoo like this is inconsequential these days and widely accepted. It’s a badass tattoo - it’s unique to you - and is a super fun homage to an incredible story and character. I wouldn’t cover it up at all; if anything maybe someday down the road you can add to it if it makes you happy.
But I think it, and you, are perfect just the way you are. Sending love light and vibes to you today 💯
Been pretty depressed about this tattoo . When I initially got it, I wanted it off immediately and regretted not copying Ellie’s exactly. Was a pretty dark time and triggered my OCD terribly, as far as affecting my job performance and social life/relationships. Went as far wearing long sleeves everywhere and anxious being in public. Especially since it’s a flawed tattoo. I actually had to go to another artist to finish because I felt the first jacked it up so badly (it was an artist who did good work for my family, so I had trusted them for this).
Would you guys think it would just be best to remove it? I’ve gotten better, but I get periods of massive anxiety about it still.
You did the right thing by not copying it exactly. It now represents the thing you want it to represent but it’s yours.
I think people should stop getting Ellie’s Tattoo. But if they’re going to do it, they should do it like this - something close but still unique, to allow their own personality to shine through. That’s yours now. Own it.
I think the tattoo should be the least of your worries man. I hope you are taking your mental health as seriously as this tattoo. You seem to be in a bad place right now… I’m probably not living in your country but I’m sure there are ways to get some help if it’s not already the case.
I am man, thanks for bringing it up. I started therapy earlier in the year as well as meds and it’s made a pretty significant difference. Still have bad times, but I feel much better.
Hang in there. The tattoo is fucking sweet and no one has it but you. “Inspired by” imho is super cool. Keep it and love it.
I’m glad to hear it ! Wish you all the best. Tattoo looks great btw !
it looks very good, no need to worry. its lovely

So sorry to hear this. I hope you're doing better now! And, honestly? I get it. I got Ellie's tattoo at the end of October because I'm the most impulsive human being on Earth and by the end of November I started regretting it (especially because the placement isn't the same as Ellie's) to the point of getting nauseous, losing my appetite, not wanting to get out of my house because it makes me really freaking anxious, and more. I don't even wanna look at TLOU related stuff because it reminds me that I have it and it makes me feel even more upset. I'm already thinking about getting it laser removed too even tho I'll probably get it removed in 10 or 15 years from now because it's really expensive and I don't really have the money rn, but yeah:/ it's so annoying and not being able to stop thinking about it NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE makes me want to cry or sleep all day, so I really hope you're feeling much better now. Your tattoo looks amazing by the way! It's really different from the original but at the same time you can tell it's from TLOU. It's nice that you got a modified one because that way it's more unique and it represents something that you only wanted it to.
Getting this removed would be very costly, very painful and you’ll end up with scars in its place unless you decide to cover up…but I think the biggest issue here is you need to take care of yourself, talk it through with a professional and get help. I went through a dark time, couldn’t see the light at the end, and it took so much to finally accept I needed help. When I did, however, it was the best decision I ever made. Trust me, care for yourself and the world will change for you.
Plus, the tattoo is sick, looks great!
It would take so many sessions and a shit ton of money to get this size and thick tattoo removed. I stayed above on another comment it took about 5 for a very tiny very not deep light fucked up tattoo I had. It hurts a lot more too with removal. I’m not trying to scare you. But it’s honestly the truth. Just expect it to take a ton and ton of sessions and they are costly. I learned the hard way and mine was like a silver dollar size prob not even that big.
Man, this is DEFINITELY not a flawed tattoo. It looks absolutely fantastic and anyone who knows even a little bit about the game will immediately get the reference. It's unique, but clearly recognizable. Keep it!!!
i don't like it but i don't like ellie's tattoo neither. nevertheless i'd immediately recognize it as ellies tattoo
If I saw you in person and noticed your tattoo I'd instantly recognize that as a TLOU tattoo. Sure, it's different. But different is good. You have your own inspired version of it. It's unique to you.
It looks like an alternate straight out of Cat’s sketchbook.
