Is it just me? Or do we need better mental health checks on S4…
So. My obsession with reality tv -especially dating shows like LIB- or competitions really hit a new level w the pandemic. Sure many of you can relate. However…as the years go by, I can’t help but notice how increasingly uncomfortable a lot of these shows have become for me.
The last couple of seasons of LIB in particular have felt downright exploitative to the contestants (Deepti n Shakenbake, Nancy and Barista, Zanab and Kohls, Colleen and Mat, even in Brazil w Ana Prado). I’ve seen other Redditors on here who’ve also been triggered by what can appear to be abusive relationships or behavior and at some point I’m like ???? okay Netflix I get it I keep giving you all my $ and consuming your content, but can we at least TRY to do better by the participants and viewers? This can’t be healthy for anyone to experience, much less on tv.
And hey, I get it. To an extent the drama these interactions create is kinda what keeps us hanging on. But, drama and juicy content can exist w/o abuse, right? It hurts me to keep seeing it- especially without any trigger warnings or resources to accompany the episode.
