My bettas wrapped around the heater

Help/Advice

For a few days now my Betta will sleep curled around the heater. My heater is right next to the filter and the temp is 78 any idea what’s wrong?

Bettas breath air at the surface. If the heater top is close to the surface and they don't have other places close to the surface, they must be using it to sleep, so they don't spend as much energy coming from the bottom of the aquarium to the top.

Ok would adding something else to the top be helpful?

It would be helpful if you tried to make some landscapping with areas of your aquarium more close to the surface, but it takes some work. The usual rule is 40cm from the bottom to the top of the aquarium, so your bettas won't need to swim too much to get air. I have seen people using some plastic "fake leaves" that can be fixed on the glass to make some area where the bettas can rest close to the surface. Other ideas may include some rocks/wood/plants that allow dome easier acess to the surface

Ok thank you I think I actually have a plastic leaf for a frog awhile ago but I don’t need it anymore
