Splitting appetizer as main meal

Hi. I hope it's ok to ask this here. I'm only asking because I don't know what to do and don't want to make a scene at the restaurant.

Basically, I can't afford to eat out at restaurants and never go. I have family visiting from out of town and they've decided to meet everyone at a restaurant that is expensive IMO. This will be my only opportunity to visit with them since it's a very short trip.

Would there be a problem if I did one of the following two things:

1. Not eat at all

2. Share a small entree or appetizer with another relative who also can't afford to eat there?

I don't know if management would get mad at the two of us for taking up seats but not ordering. To be honest, if we could both order from the kids menu, we would be happy with that. The kids menu looks more appetizing anyway. lol There's nothing on the adult menu that looks good. It's not my type of restaurant.

Any suggestions would be great. I don't want to make the server or management upset or anything like that. I don't know what to do.
