In general, I think it's fine, but this is a bit outside my area of expertise. An argument is an argument.

Now, if your K is being run specifically to make an arg about the importance of promoting participation by non-white debaters...and your solution to this problem is to have the judge vote for you against non-white debaters, that might be just a tad problematic.

But if you have a link to their aff, not sure why your identity should really matter.

I've always thought it was corny that people tried to make others feel bad for running Afropess or any other K. As long as you aren't doing anything bad, it's mostly just lit that people don't believe in. I've never met anyone who genuinely believes that black people can't achieve progress in society, it's just a strategic argument in round. The same way that no one actually believes nuke war is going to happen if reps or dems win midterms. 

It is also a good strategy to argue that white people shouldn't be able to run these arguments, so definitely prep against that if you end up running set col. It's probably not a smart move to run afropess against black debaters or set col against indigenous debaters; you will lose those rounds 99% of the time.

Idk whether I would run it after learning it. I’m just trying to soak up any knowledge I can. I really enjoy debate, but I go to a school that doesn’t compete much so I’m relegated to learning and waiting for my chance. I’ve been watching DDI lectures and some college debates to learn but I should probably temper how broad I’m looking. I like Cap, I’ll probably continue to run cap, I just want something else in my repertoire at the very least.

What has you interested in settler colonialism that the cap K doesn't suffice? This isn't to sway you away, but through proximity makes me curious as to why you'd want to run one more than the other.

No. There is nothing that would preclude a team of two white debaters from running a "set col" argument.    


I'll give a few reasons off the top of my head:    
  
The argument is not inherently "anti-blackness", and can be used to target other forms of oppression and discrimination (e.g. sexism, homophobia).    
The argument is more of a criticism of how the status quo privileges white people, rather than an argument that white people are bad.    
The argument relies on the fact that white people are socialized in a particular way, and so it would be impossible for a team of two white debaters to accurately portray the experiences of people of color. However, this does not mean that the argument cannot be run by a team of two white debaters.

I've never seen anyone complain about white people running set col like you get with afropess, and there are good reasons for that.

Afropess is an argument about black ontology and then an alternative that solves said problem/helps survive said problem. I think one could say that's it's weird for a white person to be reading about black ontology in the first place but even if you are well-read on the subject, your alt sure as hell doesn't do anything to solve that. No one wants a white person's performance, rage, or re-orientation that somehow helps black survival or changes black ontology. In fact, it lowkey sounds f-ed up especially when you get into what the lit has to say about white people.

Set Col while brought up in different categories of philosophy is primarily an epistemology and is about how we orient ourselves in the world, where we gain knowledge from, etc. That's all activism a white person could do, and as set col was originally formulated through white philosophy I wo

I’m new to debate trying to learn Ks past Cap-Marxism K and set col really interests me. Ignore any validity it may have on the topic, I’m learning debate for debate’s sake. The issue is me and my partner are white. This obviously makes it kinda suspicious to run stuff like Afropess or anything else anti-blackness, but does that extend to two white debaters running set col?

Valid to run set col as an all white partnership?
