Did anyone else initially think that this was how Automata was going to end?

NieR Automata

Either the aliens, or a previous version of the androids, pre-programmed us to see all humans as robots. That’s why we keep seeing robots with humanistic behaviours. However, we continue to slaughter them to their extinction.

I honestly thought I had called that all the way back to our first encounter in the sandy city. 9S kept telling me that all their talk of pain and such was just pre-programmed nonsense. I was really expecting some black mirror mindf where it ended up I was slaughtering the real humans the entire time!

What did you all initially think?

I know it's a bit similar to Nier, but I really thought that the machines were going to be the gestalts that couldn't return to the replicants, so they found a way to put the souls into a machine body after the events of Nier. The replicants eventually dying out somehow and the machines being the leftover human souls trying to find a way back to humanoid bodies

The aliens thing just took me from left field though haha, like I was expecting that to be an excuse or myth but nope, real aliens
