Resources/costs - moving from the US
Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this question - I’m so sorry if it’s not, but I appreciate anyone who might reply!
I live and work in the US and am considering moving to El Salvador for a finite period of time - 6 months at the most. My boyfriend is from El Salvador and is in the process of moving to the US, but we miss each other a lot and want to spend real time together other than a few weeks of vacation per year, and it just so happens that I’m in a position with my job that I can work remotely and internationally. My job pays me $66,000/year so I’m not worried about finding a safe place to stay, and we will be living together. My employer is aware of what I’m considering and fully supports it.
However, what I am concerned about is moving some of my things from the US. I most likely won’t bring furniture, but I have many items I’d like to bring that can’t fit in a suitcase: I am an avid amateur baker/cook, so there are lots of kitchen supplies I’d hate to leave behind, not to mention my cookbooks. I also sew, so I’d like to bring my sewing machine and supplies. I’d also like to bring my tv as it’s quite nice and I’d hate to leave it behind. All this being said - has anyone moved from the US to El Salvador, and if so:
- What moving/shipping company did you use?
- How much did it cost (and how much did you have shipped?)?
Any other logistical advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! And before anyone asks, mi suegra works in real estate so I don’t need tips about finding housing or a safe neighborhood :)
Thank you in advance to anyone who replies!
EDIT: The consensus seems to be to store all my personal belongings, only take what I can pack in a few suitcases, and buy the things I might need when I arrive in El Salvador. Thank you so much to everyone who commented! I appreciate your input more than you know.
