Great Lakes Refund issue I went through

Figured I would write this up so other people that might have similar issues had a heads up.

I requested my refund about a week after the announcement. I'd actually fully paid off my loan in September of 2021, didn't initially think I'd get anything back which is why I delayed my request but I saw on NPR that payments made during the Plague Times were eligible for refund/forgiveness.

It took about 2 weeks for them to get back to me, just asking basic questions that I answered (how'd you make the payments, how would you like the refund issued, nothing specific to me). they said 60-90 days on September 9th.

I was checking my Great Lakes page once or twice a week through sep, then daily in october because I was getting frustrated how long it was taking. Finally on the 21st my account randomly had a balance of 200 dollars and I was very confused. I joked about it with a couple people that they were going to slow deposit it 1 payment at a time. I compared my bank account to the payment history on the great lakes site and saw that it matched 1 month exactly (on my bank account) and that that month was now missing in my great lakes repayment history.

I didn't think anything specific of it and figured they were just doing it one at a time and I'd wait a bit longer before calling them. The payment finally showed up in my bank account today but i hadn't actually noticed it shift because i had a bill for the same amount taken out so i didn't notice the difference, so i called them to see what was going on.

Long story short the person that submitted my request initially only put the refund request in for the one month, not the 18ish months worth of payments. So the person on the phone put in the request tonight for the remainder...which will take another 60-90 days.

Great Lakes seems to have a pretty basic staff, if your refund doesn't look right or if it's taking a while call them and bug them so you get your shit taken care of because they clearly won't go out of their way to help you if you don't make noise.
