Hey, welcome. I'm sorry you're here.
I just did a quick search and it appears that plan b does not increase the chance of ectopic, so if it does end up being ectopic it is not your fault. Sometimes the doctors never find out why it is ectopic.
What are your HCG levels? And what were they at when they did an ultrasound? Sometimes they are simply too low to see anything but there is something in the uterus still.
Thanks for replying. My HcG was 488 a rise from 358 after 48 hrs. I was about 5 weeks exactly during the US. I’ve been googling all day(which I definitely shouldn’t) but I get conflicting studies. I saw that as well but also saw conflicting sites that say different. I need to save myself the anxiety and stop googling .
So typically speaking, you can't see anything on an ultrasound until 1.5-2k HCG. The reason you're getting conflicting reports is because ectopics are weird.
I've had two. My first was ovarian. My HCG was 700 and the pain and bleeding was so much for two weeks I insisted on a TV scan. They saw it, 30mm big.
My second was tubal. At 2k HCG we did a TV scan and saw nothing. A week later I was 5k HCG and they were Able to see something. No bleeding or pain for this one though.
You are in the "pregnancy of unknown location" category and "expectant management" part of your treatment. Others refer to this as "beta hell". It sucks. Read around this place but you'll see it's very common for the answer to be "well if we can't see anything on a scan let's just wait and see". It's frustrating I know, but you don't want to treat an ectopic unless you're sure because the treatments are drastic.
You said you are bleeding, so you have one sided cramps yet? That, along with the weird HCG, is what I consider the "trifecta" of symptoms, though of course everyone presents in their own way.
No one sided cramping. But I’ve had nonstop bleeding/spotting for over a week. They also saw small Amount of fluid in the pelvis which is said to correlate with ectopic pregnancies.
No cramping is good news but you're right, the rest is not good. Sadly you'll have to wait for more tests to see if they can find it.
I'm sorry you're going through this. I know it is hard but you really can't blame yourself. There's nothing someone can do to cause an ectopic. Which means the alternative is true... Nothing you can really do to prevent it either.
There's no reason to believe that Plan B would have any effect on an already fertilized egg - Plan B affects pregnancy by stopping an egg from being released from your ovary, but is otherwise basically just a blast of progesterone to your system.
If you end up finding out you are going through an ectopic pregnancy, please know that there is nothing you did to cause this. Ectopic pregnancies are entirely down to bad luck, and frequently don't have a diagnosed cause. If you're struggling with blaming yourself, seek out professional help. Miscarriages of any kind are devastating, and you deserve to talk to someone who can actually give you the proper tools to grieve and move forward.
Thank you so much!
I agree , there are so many things that can cause ectopic pregnancies, but plan b is most likely not connected to it getting stuck in the Fallopian tube, it will prevent it from implanting altogether or prevent it being fertilized. (I forget if it’s one or both) so Lee your head up. I’m sorry that you had a situation that caused you to need to take a plan B. I will be keeping you in my prayers.
Thanks! Yes, I saw my OB yesterday and she assured me that it wasn’t the plan b that caused it. It was really hard not to blame myself, but thanks to my OB and this sub, I was finally able to sleep!
Glad to help, I’m sorry about all of that .
