The boss fight at the end of the DLC was like Darklurker too.

I hope to be like Ethan and love my child so much that it manifests in them learning Trickster and Royal Guard.

That might have been the best boss fight in Resident Evil history. You had dodging, projectile absorption and super moves to deal with against a pretty badass monster design. A bit more weapon use and it'd definitely be top of the heap.

Honestly, this entire DLC looks like Evil Within 2.5.

I was getting serious Evil Within vibes the entire DLC.

RE8 was already Dark Souls/Bloodborne as fuck with a lot of it's aesthetics. And then there's that whole scene of the Duke telling you that you need to find and defeat the Four Lords so you can take their flasks of >!baby parts!<

Man watching Suzi stream this on Halloween was a trip. By the end I was in a sugar high watching one of the craziest RE moments I had ever seen.

Strand Type Games are the shit.

Just gonna ask since I played this DLC but feel like I missed something. Did the story of this DLC actually…>!add anything to the story? It honestly feels like it added literally nothing, but maybe I just missed it.!<

10
ScorpioTheScorpionThe bigger you are, the more ground you cover as you backdown•

My understanding is that >!it’s just supposed to top off the story of Ethan’s family.!<

8
PersonMcHuman•

!It doesn’t tho.!<

Red-Raptor3My precious antique coin!•

Indeed. The DLC leaves more questions than answers in what is supposed to be the "The end of the Winters saga."

Why hasn't >!Rose seen her mom "in ages?" Why would Mia be away from the super child she intentionally created?(she knew Ethan was a mold man and still banged him knowing the potential disaster that could be created) Did Chris actually send Mia's bioterrorist scumbag ass to a legitimate prison after RE8?!<

Why do >!Chris and his squad have a piece of the ancient mold fetus monster? All Chris did when seeing it near the end of RE8 was plant the bomb on it.!<

Why did >!Chris allow a BOW mutant to attend a normal school where she's makes no friends and is bullied for years?(imagine the disaster if Rose snapped and ended up using her powers on the bullies in the middle of school)!<

Since the >!megamycete saves the consciousness of its infected folks after physical death, doesn't that mean Jack, Marguerite, Lucas, Lady D, the daughters, Donna, Moreau and Heisenberg are all somewhere in there?!<

Is the >!megamycete piece even destroyed at the end? Its no longer glowing when Rose wakes up. If it ain't destroyed, is Eveline condemned to be there alone for all eternity?!<

!Ethan's wedding ring somehow manifested into Rose's hand after she exits mold matrix. So is the ring a piece a mold? If that can be brought back then what else can be brought back?!<

Is >!Ethan dead or not? Turns out he's still in the mold matrix after blowing up. Then he gives Rose his magic pixy dust energy to kill Miranda for real and seems to be at death's door again.!<

While I liked that >!Ethan and Rose got some touching scenes together!<, ultimately I still think this DLC and the timeskip epilogue in general should have never happened.

Even if RE9 goes back to present time and is all about Chris and the gang confronting a corrupt BSAA and the connections group, the stakes are lowered. We now already know it all must go mostly fine. The world isn't ruined, society seems to still be functioning and Chris will live on.(not that we should really expect Chris to fail but it would've been fun to not know for sure like in other previous entries)

I think a lot of those questions have implied answers in the game. Off the top of my head I can think of

!there's a clipboard in the beginning that explains that the mold matrix can do big cool memory and personality backup, making it too valuable to discard regardless of the risk, explaining why it's still around. How they got it is a big shrug. And I think as for Rose being a danger, I think it's implied that her powers never really developed further than that weird white sweat. Chris also assures a teacher that there's nothing dangerous about Rose, implying that they really couldn't find anything dangerous. So Rose's powers seemed to be pretty benign but bothersome enough to get in the way of living a normal life. The only reason she's powerful by the end of the DLC is because she developed them while inside the mold. Whether she'd get there eventually or had to be shown it through Papa moldman can probably only be speculated. Anyways that's the stuff I feel the most confident with, the rest I feel would only be me guessing at stuff that'll probably come up in other media!<

It introduces us to rose and the issues she's had to deal with being a mold monster her entire life. It also shows that via Ethan's pure grit the mold became one of the most successful BOW experiments ever. We are also shown the "things Chris doesnt know she can do" as well as Ethan actually being still "alive" via his daughter. What did you want it to do?

3
PersonMcHuman•

For it to actually continue the story, rather than essentially be nothing more than an explanation for her line about being able to do things "Chris doesn't know she can do." Which even then doesn't tell us much because literally everything she did happened within the mindscape of the mold. Can she do everything she did in the mindscape out in the real world too? No clue.

Also, there was all that stuff about this being "The end of the Winters storyline" despite the fact that nothing about this ends anything since the entire DLC >!takes place before the final cutscene of the main game, so we know Rose is actively doing stuff.!<

Edit: Also, >!it didn’t really “show” us Ethan being alive…because that was obvious. 8 goes out of its way to go on and on and on about all those who are part of the mold being within it. So Ethan being there wasn’t a surprise. The literal moment “Michael” showed up, I feel like most everyone knew that was Ethan. It was so obviously Ethan that I nearly talked myself out of knowing it was him because I felt that was too easy an answer.!<

Shadows of Rose fleshes out the character, further elaborates on how the mutamycete works, recontextualizes the main game’s ending, and provides closure for Rose herself. Listen to the song that plays in the credits (which is also from the main game): it’s all about how Rose is who she is because of what her guardian angel did for her.

3
PersonMcHuman•

Yes, it provides details for what happened during a small portion of time during the time skip. It doesn’t actually advance the story forward nor does it “End the Winters plotline” like they said it would.

As I said up there, it almost feels like the whole DLC is just there to explain Rose’s line about being able to do things Chris doesn’t know about.

"Goes all Miyazaki on you" could easily have two meanings and I love how diametrically opposed they are.
