Most likely was worn by a Union veteran after the war. Who knows? He could have fought in Gettysburg, Antietam or any of the famous campaigns of the Army of the Potomac.

More about the GAR here:

You have a piece of history in your hand.

No biggee! I always like researching military collectibles and the history behind them. I guess I was in the ballpark https://garmuslib.org/

Ayyy that’s it! Thank you and thank you u/rb109544

The GAR was a Union Army veterans organization.

Thanks for the help! I’m sure I’ll wake up in the morning and someone will have built on your research and found it’s origin.

Also I found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/154746504728

Theres the ebay post so you can see the back. The post itself doesnt seem to help. https://www.ebay.com/itm/403044487764?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=6vfskl_ztey&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=rpuizj48qcc&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Yes it has some text on the back, way too small to read tho

Found one on ebay but not definitive name, just a higher quality one. Lords prayer on the back? May not be able to tell but is circular. Still looking but the Ebay post had a question mark pitching it as maybe civil war. To me (not an expert), it has more of a sons of the american revolution feel to it. It reminds me of a Canadian Mountie. Just an observation.

Can anyone ID the medal/pin I found today? Southwest PA if that helps
