The P180 sounds like fast-moving angry propellers

If you live under the flight path of a such mf you can't ignore it. What a noisy plane.

Every couple weeks I get to see this thing fly over Wichita. Never could identify it.

Some differences - The Starship is a true canard design, with the canard controlling pitch. The Avanti is a "3-lifting-surface" design, and the forward wing allows them to move the main wing so the spar doesn't pass through the cabin, and the tail surface does pitch control. The Starship is built out of carbon fiber composites, whereas the Avanti is aluminum, although the fuselage is built in mold-like jigs that help to give it its smooth, continuously curving exterior.

Both were powered by similar engines, and fulfilled similar needs, with very unique aerodynamic configurations. The Starship was maybe a bit too much of a "moonshot," and wasn't commercially viable to Beech. Additionally, the carbon fiber construction, which had never been done in a pressurized civil aviation transport, airliner or business aircraft, meant that the FAA demanded very conservative structural margins, which made it too heavy. The Avanti proved to be more successful.

In some ways similar to:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_Starship

It's built in mold-like jigs to enable the smooth exterior.

The piaggio has a fairly unique body. It's not a typical tube as it has a distinct bulge for laminar flow. Piaggio says it contributes to 20% of the lift.
Fwd=25%
Main wing=45%
Horz stab=10%
Body=20%

The canard certainly helps since it is lifting, but also the very slender (thus efficient) wing. I don't know about lifting body, usually those are "wider", while the Avanti has a quite standard tube fuselage, but I'm unsure.

Very little wing area! Im assuming it has some lifting body characteristic as well as the canards to increase lift. Cool aircraft!

Distinctive sound alright. Piaggio managed to make their scooters and planes sound almost identical at full power.

I believe you so yes, otherwise at wing stall you would have a pitch up moment. I have to look a bit into it, interesting design

Exactly. So am I reading you right, that this is designed that way?

What do you mean stall resistant? The canard should be designed so that it stalls before the main wing, so the pitch up moment of the canard is lost and the aircraft pitches down by the effect of the wing-body moment, prior to onset of the main wing stall.

I see the canard is not a control surface. There is an elevator at the rear. But is it sufficient to at least make it stall-resistant?

More probably, the regulation of that particular airfield require the pilot to only use one engine for taxiing. Some airfields/airports do that to lower the noise levels (the P180 is VERY loud). The pilot should no trouble controlling the yaw with the nws.

Do those props spin at different speeds to facilitate taxiing?

>pusher configuration?

Is this another pusher vs shover controversy like in [TSOS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_t2HDFM4nQ)?

I wouldn’t have guessed the turbo exhaust has to go through the props, that’s for sure

Who would have guessed that the twin turboprop plane has two turboprop engines?!?

Video of the unique design Piaggio P180 Avanti landing. This twin turboprop is fitted with two turboprop engines mounted in pusher configuration. Love its very distinctive sound.
