Lullaby For Cain
Lay your head down baby mine
Sleep and dream of your mother's love
Someday God is gonna tear it all away from you
Cast you out and curse your name
Pariah, vagabond, villain, thief
But until that day, as a mother should
My love to you will flow, unstemmed
Christ will have his cross
And you will have your scar
What wrong you will do in a moment of blindness
Deserves not the punishment heaped upon you
A crown of hate being fashioned even now
The mud to be smeared all over your name
You are but human and human remain
This curse is immortal, an undying fame
But for now sweet Cain, lay down your head
These pains will come not a moment too late
Forced to grow, perceived as a man
They'll ignore the fact that you were once but a lad
Every boy will have moments of rage
But few will be remembered with the disdain of Cain
Sleep now my love, there is no blood on your hands yet
Sleep now my dear, you love him in your dreams
Go easy on me, this is my first and only poem.
