Curious what y'all think about the state of grading cards

Discussion

This is all my opinion only and probably not worth a penny more than you paid to read it. Keep in mind I am not a short term flipper. I buy cards with the intent of keeping them forever or until a deal comes along where I can trade them for something else.

If anyone asks me "should I grade this?" here is my answer:

If you are looking to hold something then I wouldn't grade anything at all for at least the next year. Grading companies are in entering a price war and more companies are popping up every day.

Someone will drive the prices continually lower and probably some of these will end up dying.

Already there is a premium value perception for PSA and SGC over BVG and CSG (based on conversations I've had with dealers). What will the market be in 5 years?

What about electronic grading? TAG is one example in the AI grading field and I think it's real and will be the future. Ever see a PSA 5 that looks better than a 4 and leaves you scratchingyour head? I certainly have.

It's because we have human beings making subjective decisions on non-perfect cards. That 3, 4, 5, 6nrange has got to be the toughest to grade. Having an algorithm doing it consistently makes sense to me. Take the subjective part out of the equation.

I'm a software developer by profession so I might trust this process more than some. I am convinced this is the future. Efficiency, transparency, and removing subjectiveness will be the drivers.

So I say don't be afraid of raw cards!
