Story aside, this is my biggest disappointment with the game

Unlike the earlier games, much of the "demon alphabet" used in this game is just garbled nothing. Check out the Concoction screen for an example. That magic circle in the background just seems to be random letters. The "Gigaton' wheel is just random letters too. In the previous games it said "punish it".

Also, the lack of Enochian for the demons speaking was a shame. The localisation team seemed to suffer without JP Kellams at Platinum.

Ya I liked enochian. That being said I did like the voices for baal and (not) phantom

Keeping madama butterfly silent was a good call

From the archives on Jeanne β3, The Unwavering Witch

“As Bayonetta's instructor in both magic and combat, she is hard on her pupil but their relationship has grown beyond that of servant and master, and they are more like sisters bound by a strong bond of trust…”

SISTERS

There hasn’t been any Jeanne or Bayonetta pair that displayed this much clearly romantic tension before. Game might as well have said they were roommates. 😭

Edit: Also that the theme song isn’t named “Whisper of Destiny” but is named “Al Fine”. Like girl no… That’s not fine.

OK? Have you replied to the right comment?

Oh just some minor disappointments that I found about the game…

Ahh, fair enough.

Bro, stop trying to make your fanfics canon. Just accept the fact that Bayo ain't gay and move on.

It really feels like a lot of the soul and style of the first two is just gone from this game. I think after the new toy syndrome wears off people will come to really dislike it because...it doesn't feel like a bayonetta game it just feels like another platinum game.

In terms of combat I think it’s very Bayonetta. Why doesn’t it feel like a Bayonetta game?

lotsofpasta12•

The combad doesn't feel very bayonetta though, I feel like the demon slave has taken away significantly from the up close and personal combat of the first 2. It's also just less fun to look at.

But that's not the reason it doesn't feel like a bayonetta game. The real reason is because the flavor and style of the first two games were lost. The style is hyper confident, light hearted action, lots of sex appeal and all the little things that make bayonetta...bayonetta. The demons don't speak enochian anymore. Bayonetta barely acts like herself beyond the prologue. She's lost the fire and sass. Her watching helplessly as all the other bayos die to...turning their backs on an enemy.

The traditional climaxes are for the most part gone outside of...I think the prologue and the boss fight at the end of chapter 4 and I think that's it. Even her leotard has her more covered than when she did wicked weaves in the previous games. And honestly? I think the fashion is worse in this game, aside from Luka and Bayo herself I'm really not feeling it. It just sort of feels like the spirit of what gives bayonetta its identity as a series is diminished in this game.

What it feels like is that platinum and Kamiya took ideas from other projects (scalebound most notably) and packed it into the game and that's...I mean that's fine it's still fun but it has lost a bit of its flavor and the style was for me one of the biggest draws. The energy isn't there.

True, I miss the unnecessarily brutal kills and her “idgaf” attitude. She seems complacent here, but I think they wrote Cereza to be softer than her original(?) counterpart in B1. For whatever reason.

Everything seems less extravagant too, especially the bosses. Because of the ending, the story seems >!very inconsequential in this game!<. I can see why you think the spirit is gone (because frankly, it is diminished). Not to mention the pacing of Viola’s segments, but that’s a different beast altogether. The fashion I’m alright with. They took time with their DM designs and since they technically have the most screen time I’m glad they made sure the designs are cool.

But story aside, you can still get very up close and personal for most of the enemies in the game. In fact, I think Demon Masquerade offers more mobility than what we were used to in the other games. I mean, when I use >!Scarborough Fair!< or >!Love is Blue!< I forget about the demons and can still secure a PP while being stylish still. The inputs may not be the same but I find myself doing the same combos in B1 pretty easily. The weapons themselves in this game I feel have the most personality out of the other games and are the most fun to use. I’m a sucker for combat and I’ve accepted the story is trash, unfortunately, so I gave up judging it. There’s tons to talk about but this is all that came to mind right now

Not to take too much of a dig at your opinions, but you don’t think having giant beasts on the battlefield whenever you want is kind of awesome? It’s different, sure, but closing the gap between enemies has never been easier. I found that adjusting the camera helped my enjoyment of the game considerably

It's not so much soft, it's that Cereza in this game feels...honestly kind of flat. Things happen at her instead of her being proactive and she just doesn't draw your attention in terms of personality in the way that she used to. I don't know if it's a writing problem, a directing problem or what but it's certainly less satisfactory.

Back to the combat though, on infinite climax you do have to use the demons if you want to get PP which I find annoying because for the most part the demons aren't fun. It also bothers me that when using SF or LoB the wicked weaves don't strip bayo. There's definitely less of a focus on nudity that can't be denied and as I said, her stripped leotard look is actually less revealing than what she used to look like during wicked weaves. It's a shame. I would be more upset but the alruna demon masquerade is pure sex so it's not THAT bad. But in general I kinda feel like the series kinda lost its edge you know? Like it feels like platinum are just trying to make the series more family/nintendo friendly and what's funny is I don't think it's nintendo's fault. I genuinely think platinum are doing it all on their own and its annoying.

It's still a good action game and I suppose the franchise going forward will continue to be a series of good action games, but I don't just want a good action game, I want bayonetta. If that makes sense.

dude is complaining that the fictional languague is made up letters, i mean lol

-6
DeddanOP•

So? Surely that's better for the game than complaining the gameplay sucks (it doesn't). Just because that's good doesn't mean everything else is untouchable.

It's not that it's just garbled letters, it's that in the first two games it wasn't. Some attention had gone towards adding these little details, which has been lost now.

Babis03•

Apparently the guy who did enochian has left the company and since it probably pretty hard to find a guy who knows enochian (not exactly a language many speak) and it doesn't affect the game in any real way they decided to go "Fuck it who cares".

As for the guy you responded to you, he is probably just very tired of all the negativity around the game. Especially since your post, if you will allow me to voice my honest opinion, is a bit of a nitpick to end all nitpicks. He probably saw it and went "Oh yeah of course, next we are gonna complain about the shade of black Bayonetta's cloathes are."

4
Aaroncls•

it was a nice touch for the angels, thats for sure.

But come on, how many players are going to look up the demonic or homunculi symbols caring to see what they mean? Do those even exist like enochian? Likely they would have to create one at least.

Its just not worth it in this type of game. And remember PG does not get huge budgets for their projects in general.

2
kiba87637•

Enochian is not a fictional language. It dates back to Queen Elizabeth I.

2
Aaroncls•

he is specifically talking about the "demon language" of this game

swozzy21•

I mean you’re complaining he’s complaining. Now I’m complaining that you’re complaining. So what.

DeddanOP•

The story is a mess. I don't hate what happened but it could have been told better. A lot better.

13
coppersly7•

Yeah I'm in the same boat. It's not necessarily that I don't like the story itself (although it's not where I personally wanted it to go,) it's that it was presented in an incoherent fashion that felt like set piece to set piece story telling instead of an organic adventure feeling. Also crucial things like Singularities reveal at the end were delivered at best as confusing and at worst totally missed what they were going for with it.

8
una322•

right, i remember being abit disappointed with the story in 2, but now i look back at it and think it was pretty good in comparison

4
kat352234•

Definitely. No one's claiming the Bayonetta games have ever had amazingly coherent stories. But, the stories for the first two games felt right. They fit the characters and setting.

The story for 3, the ending in particular, just didn't feel right. There were moments that worked. When they were having a bit of fun with what was going on, it felt more like what we know and expected from Bayonetta, but when they suddenly switched to serious mode, or had Bayo just standing by as people were dying, it just didn't feel right.

4
Aaroncls•

I disagree, felt just right. Game is great overall and a top-notch action title, the likes of which we do not see very often.

-1†
DeddanOP•

I agree regarding the gameplay and many of the setpieces. I don't dislike the game by any means, but it's a shame when interesting and creative details are lost.

3

No, the story is genuinely badly written. Get better taste

edgy af

Pointing out poorly written plots isn't edgy. But defending it is unbridled contrarianism and it needs to stop

Lol nothing really going to be stopped by random asinine comments like yours telling people to "get better taste"

which btw is entirely subjective, i guess it might difficult to see that with all that edge
