Newer player and running out of slots. How do I acquire free slots bud?

Sometimes they give tanks for free, that comes with garage slot, but I haven't played for couple of years, so can't tell how often

Ok. They gave me some free tier 6 reward tanks recently (I had a hardly played, but old account), and those are the only ones they gave us. I kept them, because they are premium crew trainers, mostly for light tanks, and I play almost strictly light tanks.

If you have some gold lying around, you can a lot of garage slots from the battle pass.
Occasionally a garage slot is the reward for the additional daily mission. Don't worry, in time you'll get enough space. I currently use tier 1 and tier 2 tanks as crew space

Right now your best bets are daily missions (it's a random chance in the bonus mission), events (always give a couple usually, more if it's a box-type event) and weekend challenges (about 1 in 8 at a huge guess, some weekend missions gives a slot as teh final reward).
I have some good news - Christmas is coming up soon and garage slots are one of the things that can come out of small boxes. You will get a lot of small boxes over the month and should come out with quite a few slots.
Other than that, when you're just starting out and need to make space it is OK to delete some tanks - generally ones T1-T4 (because they are CHEAP if you ever really want to re-buy them) are nearly always sellable, and many T5-6 are extremely forgettable and (IMO) it's not worth hanging onto them.
Hell, I sold pretty much everything T7 and below in my first year to finance my T8s and T9s but other time i gradually kept the T8s of each line, sometimes the T7s etc... but only because i didn't need the cash as much.

You often get them for events and you can get them from daily missions as well.
Christmas is coming within a month and I believe you can get like 10 slots during the event for free so I would not spend any gold on it.

Best bang for buck is buying the season pass (wait til the next one drops). It's like £20 for 3 months of drops, which include garage and dorm space for crews.

I'm in a similar situation as you, returning player, free tanks from well deserved rewards, not many garage slots. Soon(maybe) there will be a code for NA/EU that will give a garage slot, 16 barracks slots, and more.
Considering our similar situation, I assume you will also have some headache with barracks slots. New players have a long-term tutorial that gives them another 16 barracks slots for free I think, and most people never use more than that.

For me? Battle pass, I've got 44 free garage slots and 238 tanks or something, I've not had to buy a garage slot for a couple of years - though I do pay for the Improved Battle Pass as I consider the extra bonuses well worth it.

WG just gave out a free slot as a Twitch drop. I think it was the second drop during the latest NA clan showdown which happened over the past weekend.

Well, that'a a fucking trap I've felt into so many times, lol - sell a decent lower tier vehicle I actually had fun playing, just to buy a stock tier IX tank, for example, and have fun being destroyed by some tier X OP monster in every single game until I get enough exp to get the top gun, lol.
I still remember purchasing the IS-7 all those years ago, for example - I had a blast playing IS-4, a tank that originally was a tier IX heavy that led to it, then I instantly sold it once I unlocked the IS-7 and ended up playing it like 10 times a week during clan battles, as it just wasn't as fun in random battles as IS-4, at least for me. Yeah, I'm still salty about it, lol.
That's basically the best advice to give to any new players out there - I know the urge to instantly buy the new toy is a huge deal but believe me, it's better to have a garage full of tanks you actually like playing than selling all of them in order to buy a new one, just to realize you fucking hate it.

yeah I get so annoyed at the bad finance of my cousin, he playa full gold and premium consumables and when he doesn't have enough credits he sells his tanks so now he as no credits and no tanks.

I keep unlocking Tier 10s but they are all stupid shit like the Russian double barrel heavies, Italian havies, and the Kranvan after it got nerfed. At least I know which of those three to get but damn.

me whenever there's a black market auction for credits, selling most of my tier Xs + premium tanks + equipment/consumables for tanks that are either mediocre or i barely play with, and i have to grind for credits for the whole year to buy back at least half of them

Played Wot a lot, but recently shifted to WT. Not here to start a war and I still like both games and both games have theor weakness and strengths.
One thing about Wot that killed, was that I would put my sights on T10 tank and grind that line forever, then get that T10, play a few games and feel like I am wasting my xp and time as it does not go towards anything. Maybe that's why I like WT system. I made lower tier tank setup that I really enjoy playing, even if I have unlocked waaaay higher tier stuff. Xp I earn is still going towards something to be researched!
I remember last year I wanting AMX 50B a lot. So grinded that tree. Ironically I had the best time in AMX 50 120. Had really good games in it. Then played a few games in AMX 50B and parked it to never be seen before.
