Banning people actually trying to spread information should be every platform's responsibility; banning a bunch of people making jokes about him and having a laugh isn't the same thing.

Free speech isn’t freedom from consequences tho. Remember?

consequences... applied solely to those making fun of ol' muskrat

You sound like a person who is perfectly fine being only technically correct. Like having sex with someone under 18 in a state that it’s legal. Wrong on so many levels, but technically legal.

What’s the difference between an imposter making a joke and an imposter making trouble? Are we just supposed to sit back and let the situation play out? Or should we just have an understanding that you’re going to represent yourself and definitely not say things as someone else, assuming everyone will get the joke?

Why couldn’t she make fun of Elon as Kathy Griffin? Who is to stop someone with a ton of followers to pose as Elon, say something Tesla, and throw the stock market into chaos?

ThatIowanGuy•

You sound like a fanboy of Elon Musk that doesn’t seem to understand anything past what Daddy Musk tells you.

StatusJoeOP•

That’s a disgusting notion. I don’t give a fuck about Elon. I just don’t want the mouth-breathers of the world taking something to heart that was said by an imposter.

ThatIowanGuy•

Which is why you should be more against bad news sources and trolls pretending to be news sources from being able to purchase blue check marks without verification than a comedian dunking on Elon. All your post does is reek of Elon worship.

Bro you couldve just written "I'm too stupid to grasp parody so I need it banned."

Remember when twitter was censoring and suspending people based on posts that they didn’t agree with? I seem to recall redditors coming out in droves to applaud it and point out that a private company has the right to moderate its content. And that the first amendment doesn’t apply to private institutions etc etc.

Now everyone is whining because twitter is now doing the same thing they’ve been doing for years they’re just applying the rules to different people now

The issue is the hypocrisy. He said Twitter was too heavy handed in it’s moderation. He has said he is a free speech absolutist. He said that comedy is now legal again on Twitter. As soon as people started mocking him, he throws out permanent bans without warning.

3
AlbertStumbledore•

Nah the real root of the issue is that people just decide to hate someone or something and then do their best to fill in the reasoning after the fact.

It really doesn’t matter what he did with twitter. All the liberal folks that got used to twitter banning opposing views are now angry that differing views will have a platform. They’re going to hate musk for opening up the echo chamber and assign bullshit justification as they go.

Very few anti-muskets to this point have made hypocrisy the center of the argument against him. Mostly just that he’s a threat to democracy accusing him of being a nazi etc, the normal liberal crap you say when you don’t like someone

1
Gwthrowaway80•

Well, I’ve made it my central argument.

1
AlbertStumbledore•

Ok then you are one of the four people bitching about Elon that I’m not referring to

1
ncsbass1024•

Because he explicitly said he wouldnt and we all knew he would. We are just baffled youre suddenly on our side of the arguement but you dont seem to know.

I’m not really on a side, I couldn’t care less about twitter. I just find the outrage funny. The majority of Reddit was suspiciously quiet while certain views were being silenced over the last few years.

Now that the tables have turned people are outraged by the “hypocrisy.” I’m far more outraged by twitter actively working to control the narrative than I am about Elon banning Kathy griffin in the first week he has control of the platform.

Twitter has shown unfettered dishonesty in the last few years by way of completely incorrect fact checking. They banned people for expressing opinions and ideas that were completely legitimate but went against the liberal political leanings of the platform. If you thing that “hypocrisy” is worse than all that you are lost.

Conservatives are extremely pro-censorship. They tried to censor games, movies, books, etc. etc. for their opinions dozens and dozens of times. Except when conservatives do it, we call it a 'moral panic' and not a 'censorship fever.'

God I can't even list all the things they wanted off the air. Rap was no good, anything to do with dinosaurs, evolution, sexual education, lgbt, anything to do with black history, American history. Just like Musk, their devotion to free speech is hollow, they just want to say the N word.

1
AlbertStumbledore•

Lol oh no conservatives said they didn’t like the content of video games and movies? How will society function.

Pretty far reach from silencing someone because they question, or provide information, that goes against the current political narrative.

ncsbass1024•

You thought you were mad at someone. When I told you what it really was you realized you would have to be mad at yourself and changed your views accordingly. Fucking muppet.

1
Trudzilllla•

No one is saying it’s illegal for musk to ban whoever he wants from his shorty platform. If he wants to Run it into the ground, that’s just fine by me.

We’re calling him (and you) a hypocrite because he never cared about providing an open platform, he just got mad people couldn’t say the N-Word any more.

AlbertStumbledore•

Lol it’s always something. First people were angry that millionaires would have to pay a subscription, not to use twitter, just for the blue check. Literally does not effect 99.9% of users. Now fragile redditors are mad because he’s banning people for making fake accounts.

No matter what he did with twitter y’all would’ve come out in force to see a problem with it. “He’S a ThReAt To DeMoCrAcY”

Get a grip
