My New Secret
I feel that after awhile,
People expect you to get over it.
Their compassion runs dry,
And their patience wears thin.
But how can I let you go,
When you’re the voice of my conscious,
And everything returns my thoughts to you?
When I see you in the colors of the sunlight,
Even with my eyes closed?
When I feel you in every deep breath I take,
Even when it’s to release you?
When I hear you in every melody,
Even though I’m forgetting the sound of your voice?
As much as it hurts,
I’ll stop talking about you.
At least to others.
But I know,
deep in my heart,
You’re still my home.
Even though,
I’ve been evicted.
