the death of someone who should have loved you
I leave my room and descend into grief
where I am greeted by Death and introduced to his friend
Regret, champion of Things that Never Sat Well and Never Will Again.
Deathbeds are no place to make amends.
Staring down the long road that is mortality,
I see for the first time Orion in his totality.
It took seeing him to know that all that mattered
were Los Tres Reyes Magos.
Wrote this the day my estranged grandfather died almost four years ago and found it cleaning up my google drive today.
Readers reference:
• Orion is know as “the light of Heaven” (source)
• Los Tres Reyes Magos translates to the Three Kings and is also recognized as Orion’s Belt. I can’t reconcile this myself in the poem. Hoping someone can give me some incite as I don’t have any recollection of writing it.
