Let’s talk about battery life and high end wireless over ears

Discussion

So I ordered the Bathys. They’ll be here tomorrow (I’ll share my impressions then)

Like many, battery longevity concerns me. I have gotten word that Focal will replace the batteries though, and I’ll get confirmation of that this week.

For some context though, for longevity. Typically the rule is 500 charging cycles on the low end will equal the useful life of that battery.

Correct my math if I’m wrong, but the Bathys has 30hrs per charge roughly on Bluetooth. So using that number, we take 30hrs per charge cycle X 500 cycles a lifetime and we get 15,000 hours of use before the battery is considered depleted.

Taking that 15,000 hours and dividing that to 24hrs a day gets us 625 days.

That would be 625 days of nonstop use and recharging.

Realistically most people won’t use a headphone for more than say, 8hrs a day maximum (My use may be 8hrs a week on these frankly)

So let’s take that 15,000 hours of use and divide by 8hrs a day (that’s 8 hrs a day, 7 days a week)

That’s 1,875 days before you’re looking at the battery being done.

Roughly 5 years. And that’s with daily 8hrs a day use.

Now let’s take my use case into account. I’m roughly at 2hrs a day, so with my use, 15,000 useful hours, divided by 2, that equals 7,500 days, which is roughly 20 years.

Considering I’m 40, these may actually be the last headphones I’ll need, lol.

The use of headphones aren’t like phones where we keep them on 24/7 and charge daily.

So, remember when being wary of wireless headphones, especially ones you can shut off, you likely will have them for a VERY long time.
