Physics 1 lab

I've heard most people do really bad. Rn I have a C+ and i know that the final will be 30% of my grade. How big is the curve? Do I need to worry?

FINAL UPDATE for future anxious students like me: (a little background info-) I was unfortunately placed in the smart class where all the physics majors and medicine students are. The final average overall grade was a 73.8- 75.5, which is pretty dang high. The final test average was 55-62% I was really scared, because i scored significantly lower

My stats: Prelab average: 16.416/20 Experiment average: 90/100 Quiz average: 9.6/20 (18/20, 8/20, 3/20, 11/20, 8/20) Not very impressive, ik Final: 24/100 Final weighted score: 61.01/100

Final grade on accesuh: C

In conclusion, the curve is indeed giant and if you were/are in the same situation as me, i assure you- you will most likely be fine :)

Have some hope

It’s a pretty big curve. I turned in all labs, got an average of like a 67 on quizzes, and got a 54ish on the final and still got a C+. Would I recommend studying, yes but there is some wiggle room

I think my average quiz score is like a 50- something and I'm really scared. I'm fine with a C- really, but I'm not sure if I'll make it. Do you know if the final is multiple choice? Or Free response?

It’s all multiple choice, structured just like the quizzes

Oh, ok that's a relief. I saw the review and i felt sick to my stomach bc it's free response

Do you guys know how curves are for physics lecture?

I took the lecture like 3 years ago and the curve is massive. I literally got a 50 on all 3 exams AND on the final and still got a B+

How did you do on hw?

I remember always re doing them until I got a 100 so probably a 98-100 average

You should be fine. One thing about UH intro labs is that they make it really hard for you to get an A, which means they also make it really hard for you to make a C. They grade based on how your section does. So the majority gets a B, and then 1 gets an A and 1 gets a C. I think just like 1 or 2 ppl get +/-. Same goes for intro chem labs. So as long as you are at the average whether it’s a 50 or an 80 you’ll most likely get a B.

At least that’s how it was for me when I took the lab like 2 years ago.

Is that the same case for physics lectures

Dude.. lmao

7 years later, I still don’t know how I ended with an A after bombing every quiz, decent lab grades, and easy prelabs.

I will say that the final review is very similar to the final so do remember the graph question(assuming the format hasn’t changed since then)
