I've lit the fire at -20C on the Canadian prairie. Granted I just braaied some wors rolls for the story and my roommates said I was nuts.

Which is commendable, but I've seen your 'winter' and still got a tan. The sun sets here at 4:30 today.

A kiwi bbq is in a car port at best. If the wind doesn’t blow it out.

Wisconsin resident here.

Weather is no impediment to tailgating, at least they kind we get here. You just wear appropriate clothing. But I will agree with you, -12C and clear (or even snow) is much more acceptable tailgate weather than 5C and raining.

Do they? US weather is a lot more predictable than Ireland/Britain/NZ, and I don't know how much they tailgate in Wisconsin during January

the americans manage it and I'd say its a fair bit colder than most of the rugby playing nations

Exactly whats wrong with heading to the fanzone if your stadium has one and having a bit of craic there

>buy an umbrella

I take it that you’re not familiar with our horizontal rain?

Inside=carbon monoxide
And umbrellas do sfa against Irish rain, which often defies Euclidian geometry.

Honestly unless you experience the lazy damp cold we have up here it's hard to really get it. Like I found - 18c in Berlin easier to deal with cause you could dress for it and the cold didn't creep into your bones and follow you inside.

Do it inside then, buy an umbrella, make the fire so out water evaporates before it touches the surface of the earth, Find a way and go Braai

Lads, I hate to break it to you, but a fair whack of the rugny playing world isn't prime braai weather during winter

Joe Marler does a schtick with one eye on his post playing media career, Nigel Owens did the same.

I reckon Joe should break out his Trixie Turnover makeup next harlequins game - glitter beard and all

Another one I just thought of too was reducing the number of teams on the 7's circuit. Genuinely does seem like they're trying to stop the game expanding. They might be afraid of losing their place at the top if everyone is playing

Yeah it's mental that most rugby organisations have been trying to do the complete opposite. They send players to "media training" and then they end up talking in cliches and riddles for every interview. It's all about avoiding controversy. They don't share stats with fans properly either because they want to sell them off to bookies and the like. They force people to take down YouTube videos discussing the game with claims of copyright infringement. It's almost like they're actively trying to stop the game growing

And you can ask that horse, do you want a drink, or do you want to swim, and its up to that horse what he wants to do in his life.

he has a point about the utilization of the characters who play the game at top level. if u listen to press conferences it's to dull and professional, everyone just gives safe answers to the questions they know will becoming. Joe Marler is the best example of a player that is a characther in and of himself, it's why he has clips on youtube like best Joe Marler moments and it's all stuff mostly off the field. I guess I'm trying to say humanize the game more I guess

But that's already the case everywhere else in the world, or at least everywhere that I've seen; the difference is the setting. Like if you're ever walking to Lansdowne you'll pass so many pubs just rammed with people before a big match and good luck getting passed or into a pub down by the RDS, one of which just opened a covered outdoor area call Madigan Square Gardens.

He is not wrong though. Look at how club rugby games become a community event. It does not have to be a braai, it's just about the social gathering around the game.

Can't believe I didn't expect a comment about this when I came here. Top notch response dude

You too can have a XV beaten by an out of form Munster! /s

It does not take much for a South African to grab a quick braai

Is everyone who are represented by Roc Nation given the same script to read?

That's the South Africans secret, we're always hungry.

Pretty jealous that South Africans have professional rugby all year round.

Do you want to forget all your current worries?

Edit: dark hunour aside, CTE is a massive issue and shouldn't be downplayed

And how does Rugby market the long term effects of heavy collisions both in matches and training?

Yeah that's how club rugby is in Argentina. Makes sense given how similar Arg and SA are i guess.

That's Ardie's big idea to save rugby? ... tailgating...

The party before and after a game at Ellis park was as much fun as the game. I’m a kiwi and it was awesome. Went to a test at wellington this year. Bars in town were good. But walked to stadium before kick off. Left straight after. Good for bars I suppose…

I have never had an infamous braai, but oh my days, I know I’d be lining up for one too.
