Considering a DJ.. potentially making a mistake...?

I am considering getting a Dirt Jumper. There are a couple of pump tracks near me and some dirt jumps, but I would likely only be using it around town for short commutes to gym and cruises around the neighborhood, but still want the ability to jump around and do some basic tricks. I skate too, so may on rare occasion haul it to the parks. Question is, is this the type of bike I should get for the use case I'm describing? I've owned a BMX in the past and while fun, getting around on it sucked. Am I ignorant to assume it a DJ would be any better with the larger wheels and size of bike? Thanks!
