Add feature for adding alcohol of different ABVs?

About once a week, I usually go out drinking beer/alcohol. They can vary quite wildly in ABV, anything from 3.5% to 15%. I usually log it all as a "standard" beer of 5% and however many cl I drink. But it would be a bit more accurate if you could log a certain number of centilitres with a X% of alcohol, and MF would translate it into the number of kcals.

This of course banks on the fact that ABV correlates evenly to kcals, which I'm not certain of.

there is a very large caloric difference between a beer that is 3.5%, 5% and 15%.

you might take the time to create a custom food for each of the common abvs that you drink: perhaps 12oz each of 3.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% and 15%

that way, you only need to choose the closest entry and how many ounces you are consuming in macrofactor at drinking time.

Or you could just search the % ABV you want and use one of the branded entries.

i noticed the whisky entry in MF is shown as having zero carbs. this seems unlikely to be helpful in the algorithm.

The algorithm only uses Calories (and weight) data; it ignores macros.

With beer, calories correlate with alcohol, but it’s more complicated than that. Accurately calculating calories in beer generally requires knowing the beer’s Original Gravity and Final Gravity. See calculator here: http://www.brewunited.com/beer_calorie_calculator.php

Some breweries post the gravity numbers for their beers, but many don’t. Without that info you can still do an estimate based on ABV and volume, but the result won’t be precise.

Abv is a big driver of calories but there are other factors (namely carbs / sugars remaining in the beer post fermentation) that vary by style. I have had good luck searching for the style of beer (or a big brand name of the same type, for example hazy little thing) and entering it accordingly.

I also sometimes just increase the ozs based on the increased ABV. For example if I use a 60% navy strength rum, and put 2oz of that in a cocktail, I will enter 3oz because the typical Abv for rum is 40%

I did suspect this, and I usually do the same thing. A take a "standard" beer at 4.5% and multiply it to whatever ABV I'm drinking.

I've taken to using expected Cals = 2.5 ' Volume in Fl Oz * ABV for anything fancy. The assumption is some beers will be over, some will be under, but if you drink enough it will average out.
