Deviation

Poem

Blood streams down your face
on a sweltering day, salty dark ribbons
returning home through a panting mouth
as sweat breaches your brow bone
to sting a pair of squinting eyes.
You look a mess, but you’re still alive.

—

Inspired quite literally by the fact that my deviated septum makes my nose bleed at inopportune times all throughout summer. An incessant but sometimes necessary reminder that I am indeed mortal.
