girls dressed like greek letters

Poem

when i was in school i slept through my classes
the chalk's staccato tap-clattering some strange lullabye
my dreams filled with girls dressed like greek letters
that danced across diagrams, elusive and spry

i thought i might learn the structure of numbers
i thought i might grasp the subtlest of things
and from some facts arrange a levee of knowledge,
keep the torrent of confusion beyond in some bay

i wonder if newton, blinded by sunlight
or poisoned by alchemy, considered giving in,
cashing out his south sea bubble profits
finding a wife, having kids; the ordinary thing

it's written in scripture that faith can wake mountains
I find it hard to believe when i can't move from my bed
i've faith though some things lie beyond understanding
Hosanna, Hallelujah, we're alive then we're dead.
