Some counter arguments I've been using.
- Stop abortion, all life is precious. Okay, when are you adopting? Why are you voting for people that cut access to childcare, maternal/paternal leave, etc? Why do you want to raise alive babies to be dead soldiers? You didn't shed a tear when that drone strike blew up that kids hospital in the middle east? Oh wait..they weren't white...
- When do you guys plan on having kids? Why are you so interested in our sex lives? Would you like a notification every time I cream pie my wife? A video of our deed?
- But if you don't have kids, who is going to take care of you in old age? Coming from someone that will likely be stuffed into a musty old nursing home the minute they can't wipe their ass anymore. How many elderly parents live with their kids anymore? That notion died out years ago.
- Not having kids is selfish. You have it backwards, expecting people to take on a huge financial burden is selfish. Expecting couples who each already work 40 hours a week to ensure time for their kids is selfish. Plunking a kid down in front of an iPad isn't raising them.
- But your not passing down your genes. Ya, and we're a family of politicians, lawyers and rock stars, I'm sure the world can't wait for the installation of Raspootin 2.0.
- Isn't it boring having an empty home sometimes? No, in fact I find much peace in it. If my dog barks a bit at 3am, it's just staring out the window at a cat. If a baby cries at 3am, your getting up to figure out what it wants.
- You just hate infants/kids. Not at all, I like them just as much as anyone else, in fact I like them more because I'm not having to raise any myself.
- Everyone should have kids. No, and that's a big problem with society today. It's better for a child to have never been born at all, than to be born to a single mother who does crack, or parents who abuse their kids or fight and yell all the time. So many kids have shitty fucking upbringings they don't deserve and unless they have the willpower to change, they will just raise more shitty kids. Personally I feel you should have a license to have a kid. Be prepared financially, mentally and emotionally. Need a license to drive, to carry a gun, etc, but not to pop out a whole human being.
