Tutorial Videos For Beginners

For those new to Distant Worlds (like me), here is a series of 7 videos on YouTube by Das24680 that are often recommended to beginners as helpful in learning to play the game:

By the way, Das24680 has also made a series of 12 videos in which he plays Distant Worlds with the popular Star Trek Picard Era mod, which changes the music, sounds, races, ships, characters, dialogue, events and other aspects of the game to those from the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV show and its related feature films.

I hear you. So far, I've just been fiddling around in sandbox mode trying to figure the game out. At some point, I hope to set aside a chunk of time to play a full game.

really amazing game. Uninstalled a lot of 4x games once I start to really see the bright future of distant worlds.

I was playing GalCiv2 until a more modern (and playable) 4x space strategy game came along. I was in the middle of the Dread Lords campaign in GalCiv2 when the Distant Worlds sale cropped up. Somehow, I haven't gotten back to that Dread Lords campaign...

Perfect timing, I just picked it up and am learning the ropes but so far I'm loving it. Is there a tutorial that focuses on economics? The game tutorial did an ok job of covering how the civilian/state system works but there are still a lot of things left unclear, such as how trade revenue is generated/calculated, and whether the civilian sector reimburses you for civilian facilities constructed with state funds (mining/gas bases, etc).

Have you tried reading the entries on economics in the game's Galactopedia? The Game Concepts section has a few pertinent pages: economy, economy tips, and tax.

Also, the manual (there's a PDF file located in your game's installation at \Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\Manuals) has a section on the economy as well.
