Not Just Yet

Poem

The last stop before human is cat.
Are we all in agreement on that?

Well, I think that the cats know it too.
Have you seen how they watch what we do?
Have you noticed that look in their eyes?
And you know how they all have nine lives?
I suspect that they're choosing to stay,
Having noticed the puzzling way
That we work ourselves up into states.
They can see we've a lot on our plates,
And they're happy to not comprehend.
Doesn't look like much fun on our end.

They think "Let me keep coming back here.
People really are fun to be near!
It's as if they don't live on this plane
But some other transparent domain,
And it makes them so sad and perplexed!
So if that's where my soul's headed next
Then, for now, I'll stay here, at this height,
Just enjoying their baffling plight."

But the hunger to know grows so strong
That they all, in the end, come along.
So then, if you believe it's like that,
Curiosity does kill the cat.
