I'm not sure whether i was scammed or not, can someone help me?
Just for the sake of information, I'm from Jaipur, Rajasthan
Also i don't know anything about Sikh culture so please don't be offended if I say something wrong.
So today two Sikh people came claiming that they came from this gurudwara for donations and whether or not I would donate to them (apparently they do some sort of "paath" and all where they later give food etc. To the needy), they did have a receipt and their identification cards and as far as my common eye sees, it seemed legit.
So i forked over Rs 600 (I'm a college goer {and a day scholar} so i can't donate much, even so i think 600 from a single person should be more than expected) but they said they'd need 2100 for those "tel ka peepa" (i don't know how to put it in English and oil canister seems to be misleading), i flat out told them i can't give away that much but they started all that stuff that basically translated to "you can give us money without your parents permission, it's for your and your family's good"(both of my parents are working so i end up alone most of the day), in the end i had to give some 800 in total to make them go away, and that's AFTER multiple "no's" and "i can'ts", for which they showed me their Paytm transactions and that several other people gave them donations ranging from 2100 to 3500, and the date on them was some 3-4 days before of today. They finally gave up when i told them i just can't and made multiple cooked up reasons as to why (obviously though, why would I take money from my parents? I gave 800 from my own savings and I'll burn in hell before donating from my parent's balance without their permission).
So now after searching for stuff like this on Google, it seems such fraudsters are being caught in other countries, so while I'm glad i stood my ground, I'm also confused as to whether i was scammed or not.
Please don't hold back on anything you'd like to say, at least it's a life lesson for me.
