Phantom Man with a Cane

Poem

There is something inquisitive

About you old man,

Standing at the checkout lane

Of this grocery store.

Calmly debating what candy

You will treat yourself to.

But there is a sadness in your eyes

That no one seems to acknowledge.

As you wait in your pajama pants

Watching the line dwindle.

You look so weightless,

As if hovering on your Cane.

You don't say a word

As you buy your food,

As if you aren't aware

Of the world around you.

You walk out into the cold,

Unphased by the sharp rain

Hitting your vulnerable skin

And white covered head.

Hair so pure it could be easily mistaken

for the snow you peacefully glide through.

You drift along the crosswalk,

Meeting no resistance

From the rough blowing winds.

You walk towards nothing,

Where is it you are headed to?
