To my boy best friend
I see you
The boy I grew up with
Skinned knees and gravel imbedded palms holding up each other
I see the way your hair grew corser and the blood of men run in your veins
You used to whisper to me about the stars
But all the words you give me now are full of Sly's and innuendos
I look at you and you look down at me
When did you grow?
When did this change?
I see the way you scream your ugly words at pretty girls and laugh as they hunch over
I remember when you were soft
And the world was so much bigger
I never thought about the day that you would whisper those things to me
A hand on my waist
You call me a pretty face
My words are irrelevant, you joke with your buddies
I remember when you were mine
Matchbox cars and sesame street
I see the way you look at me
And I feel so small
I see you and I wonder when your world shrank to exclude me
You tell me that I can be included any time if I just flash a pretty smile and-
Well now the only scraped knees I should have are the ones I get from servicing you
I see you
And I wonder,
When did our world became yours and mine?
