ToA Hell FAQs
Hi guys, we've gone through enough rotations to have all the reference to use for any stage, but there're still a lot of people who want to understand more about ToA Hell or straight up new player, so this post will cover (almost) everything about ToA Hell, including common replacements(what and why), specific restriction and how to dealt with it, and more.
Special thanks to u/Twant's and u/Chilliad_Sentry's guides that turn me into ToA Hell addict.
Alert: WALL OF TEXTS
FAQs:
Q: How is your Dark Homie built?
A: s1 strips, s2 def break and s3 unbalanced field. s1 multi-hit is better imo, the strip is unreliable but the push back is decent. For Artamiel/Ragdol/Camilla etc single hit might be better. But single-hit is far better in 3000 reflected damage.
------------------------------------------------------
Q: What is the minimum SPD requirement?
A: Well, tbh i don't know (lol). but after some quick searches i think the waves have around 255~260 spd and sometimes bosses are super fast (Miles boss or some high base speed mons). For reference, my spectra has bonus +120 spd, tyron has bonus +140 spd and they both go before waves/bosses. (unless the boss have insane base speed or Miles).
------------------------------------------------------
Q: If i don't have [insert X], is it impossible to do ToA Hell? (mostly Bolverk/Gany)
A: That's the wrong mindset, there're a lot of F2P guides out there, Bolverk only make certain stages easier, not an auto-30-stars-unit. just try it with what you have, don't be afraid, you will learn and adapt really quick once you know what you need(i will talk more about this later).
------------------------------------------------------
Q: I don't have runes like guide video, what should i do?
A: Typical CC/push back comp never let the enemies move once, so if your rune depth isn't that good, i suggest reaching speed threshold is more important, then work on accuracy for CC/debuff units AND Crit rate on DDs (Spectra, Shaaman for example). You don't need to be 100% on Violent rune, Vio just make it safer due to reduce cooldown faster. my Spectra used to be on swift CRR slot 4 when my runes were bad, but i can still get 30* like a walk in the park(well not that easy but very doable). Take note that your Spectra should have decent Accuracy to land his s3 debuffs, artifacts help a lots.
------------------------------------------------------
Q: How does a Bolverk team work, since you can't S3 bosses?
A: You don't use Bolverk to dealt with the boss, you use him to wipe out 14 other monsters, then with either Light/Wind/Fire String Master little by little taking care of the boss by her HP reduces song.
------------------------------------------------------
Q: Should i skill ups things like Spectra, Homie, etc?
A: Homu skill ups are really valuable and you should max her s2/s3 asap, but if you have Gany you can run unskilled Homie. Spectra/Shaaman has -1 Cooldown in their s2, so it's okay to max it.
------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which monsters are in the standard P2W/F2P/Bolverk team?
A:
P2W team: you need 1 or 2 DDs(Daphnis, Jamire)+ 1 or 2 push back/CC(CP, Verad), and a dark homie/2A spectra/etc
F2P team: Tyron, Spectra and Homie as core, their synergy are too good. 2 slots left are for situations. (Check specific restriction section)
Bolverk team: Bolverk and 1 StringMaster is core, 3 slots left are for any kind of buffers. Riley is the friendliest unit in the game along with 2A vigor. (Check common replacements section)
------------------------------------------------------
Q: Are these all the QAs you got?
A: Yes only these questions right now, but don't worry i will add more and more questions in the future.
------------------------------------------------------
Common replacements:
I will list the monster's name, its job and what common replacement:
- Gany: This should be the monster that has the most asked question about replacement.
Job: non-contact AoE ATB push back along with single target reset on s3, fully reset cooldown an ally on s2.
Replacements: push back
Woochi: AoE ATB push back (s2,s3) along with AoE reduce cooldown for Allies on s3.
Cheongpung: AoE ATB push back(s1), inc. cooldown on s3. Def break, glancing on s2.
------------------------------------------------------
- Bolverk
Job: 50% max HP reduce, bypass passives, insane healing.
Replacements: Nothing, he's UNIQUE. But
Nora: i don't have Nora, but her skill/passive reduces boss's HP as a fixed amount by debuffs.
Double String masters: poor-man Bolverk replacement.
------------------------------------------------------
- Tiana
Job: irresistible strip s3, good dmg s2, def break s1.
Replacements: a reliable stripper
Clara: Pros: s2 Def break | Cons: s3 strips one buff at a time
Veressa/Dark Chun-li: Pros: full strip on s3, Glancing/ATK break, s1/s2 push back | Cons: HoH but it's not like everyone have her.
Hyanes: Pros: insanely good with reliable up-to-2-buffs strips and prolong Debuffs, bypass the 1-turn debuff restriction like a chad. | Cons: HoH, but it's not like everyone have her.
------------------------------------------------------
- Water Pony
Job: Def buff and immunity, can provide revenge buff aswell if you have Shizuka
Replacements: something that provide buffs consistently
Riley, Vigor, Aaliyah, Acasis, Louise, Wind Chilling, Lulu. everything work just fine.
------------------------------------------------------
- Light String Master
Job: Reduce 5% max HP whenever enemy take a turn, atk break, tanky sandbag
Replacements: her sisters
Fire String Master/Wind String Master: same ability but due to different passives they provide less DPS than Light one in the long run. the Wind one is better than the fire one, but the fire one has healing and atk buff.

Specific restriction and how to dealt with it
So this one is a little bit tricky, since it heavily depends on the monsters each stage.
Overall if you need to shut down something that has annoying passive: Herne, Tesarion is must.
1 turn Silence need either Tetra or Veromos to go first.
1 turn immunity need stripper to go first.
1 turn silence+immunity need Tetra/Vero into > stripper.
Reflected Damage can be cheesed with tanky healing comp.
Bolverkable every stage except No healing, No passives and No buff.
everything else should be easy to dealt with Tyron/Spectra CC comp. (correct me if i'm wrong or missed something)
