False Polaris
I was the kid who chased the stars
Never looking down
I just ran
But no amount of breath was enough
I could never reach them
If anything, they just kept getting farther away
Nothing changed
I'm still that kid
Like the moon that was promised an eclipse
The sun's promising rays are warm
Yet the distant void gapping between, solemn
I'm still that kid
But without the vivid imagination
My eyes were my pen
The night sky, my paper
I'm still that kid
With different stars to chase
Different lights to blind me
Old promises haunt me
While new dreams trick me
I'm still that kid
Not knowing when to stop
Naive enough to still hope
Ignorant enough to follow
Nightmares disguised as dreams
I'm lost
And my stars don't point north
(Hi, I've always wanted to try poetry as a hobby but never got around to actually start. But I felt the need to write something tonight so here goes—I'm not a native english speaker so bare with me, I really tried my best here xD)
