Poem

9:38

I'm sitting at my desk in Vienna

and think about persuading myself that a relationship between us

probably wouldn't have worked.

You pronounced my name in Turkish

with a ş instead of a -s at the end;

yet my name is pronounced in Greek: Savas.

I ignored it.

I get up from my desk

and walk through the 10 square meter room

and tell myself that a relationship between us

definitely wouldn't have worked.

You like going to clubs and partying on weekends;

yet I just want to stay at home and read a book.

I ignore it.

I will leave the apartment and go looking for the stars in the sky

and persuade myself that a relationship between us

never would have worked.

You will continue to live too far away, you in London, and I, yes I in Vienna;

yet a relationship requires intimacy.

I'll ignore it.

It doesn't matter if I sat, just walk around or will watch

the stars, no matter if you pronounced my name in Turkish,

like to party in clubs and continue to live in London:

I don't care if a relationship between us

probably,

definitely,

never

would have worked:

When darkness falls I leave the apartment

and seek your star, eşyA.

Why are you hiding from me

in the dark of the sky?

I'll keep telling myself that it

wouldn't have worked out between us.

Maybe I forget you faster this way

and can walk back again to my apartment

without looking for your star in the sky at night,

without thinking about it,

that maybe we could have make it work together.
