Your Choice

Poem

Where do you go sometimes in your mind while we are together?

Where do you go in your mind when you are out with others?

Where in your mind do you go when you are home alone?

I wonder

Though I’m pretty sure I don’t need to know, I suspect I do

You go and stare back at you.

You go and stare at the mistakes you’ve made, regrets that lay on your skin.

You go to stare at the single thing in this vapid world that you hold true and sacred

The so-called real you, broken and foolish

Breaking and breaking others.

You see me broken and breaking others as well, and this is true; I can’t deny.

And to you, this proves you right; that I am worthless, and you are worthless too.

But I am here, right now, here trying.

Broken but trying

Breaking others but trying not to break in vain but with intention, so I am not lying.

And surely, I am not lying in what you think is fate

And look, we both are here

Seldom with a choice.

But again, both are here with calluses, and soft hands and a voice.

So fight with me because I’m willing to do whatever it takes.

Or live in your most cherished lies to never escape.
