Recipe

Is it coriander, cumin or cardamom

Maybe all three?

Your mind begins to wander —

as you stare at a pot of childhood memories,

Nostalgia simmers on low,

Your mothers masterpiece waltzes on your tongue

you rush to call her

She answers before the phone has rung

And you come to realize

Maybe she missed a spice here —

Or left out a step by choice

Because she knows that when you need a recipe

She’ll have an excuse to hear your voice
